Guest guest
Betty- I don't know what country you are living in now, but here in the US, we already have a 3rd-world medical system where most people forgo medical treatment because they can't pay, and people die in waiting rooms clogged by people who can only go to emergency care that we (all of us) already pay for, at a great price. Insurance companies, driven by profit, already decide what we can and cannot get in terms of care without medical justification. We have a lower life expectancy than the rest of the socialized modern world, and spend at least 2 times as much to get there. We are living in a medical disaster. Your fears are misplaced. No stormtroopers will come to your door and put a gun to your head to force you to join government-run heathcare. Instead, more patients might be waiting there now that they have a way to pay. And of course, if you chose only to treat the rich, that's your choice. -Ben Hawes, L.Ac. Itlooks like they are aiming at low budget, socialized, third world healthcare and I for one would like to see TCM stand alone and above the mess. It may turn out that TCM will be the refuge for those who cannot get the quality, humanitarian treatments they need. If you disagree, stop and think how well government (and I mean under all administrations going way back) runs anything. Do you really want them making the decisions over whether you or your loved ones get the treatments they need? Well, you no longer have that choice so wouldn't it be nice if TCM could he the saving grace for the many who suffer under the new system? Just my humble thought. Guest guest
Betty With all respect to things you had done to help in the medical care in other countries, I think you are in denial when you talk about US medical system. I see many people who got worse and heartless care. From careless healthcare personals... What is the best in US is unique surgeries or top experimental procedures but general care... In my area I see many Mexicans. They prefer to go back to their country to get quality care because they do not trust American doctors. And it is not because of the price they have to pay for the treatment, as you told, they can get free medicine here. Because of the free medicine that people get in ER, there are so many hospitals getting closed. The recent news - one of the best medical hospital in the country (in my area) will close its rehabilitation unit because they cannot afford to pay salary to 450 professionals. One hospital is struggling to stay alive, and two were closed (one 5 years ago and another one 7 - before the economic crisis!). I hope that there will be a positive change in medical system, otherwise we all will go to Mexico to get care. If you go on petition list you will see many health professionals, and relatively few LAc. If we will be inactive, our niche will be occupied by those with 200-300 hours of acupuncture. I think that acupuncturists have to sign the petition to protect our profession. I see it disappearing..... I want to ask acupuncturists, how many of us can afford our own service? Guest guest
Sorry if I am joining this conversation late, but please also consider the new administration's suggestions of making all medical records electronically accessible by a central healthcare system. While hospitals can implement such a cost, if we are integrated completely, we will also have to add these costly computer systems to our private offices. The cost of such a system? The last I heard was approximately $45,00. Respectfully, Melanie
