A practitioner I know who practices a Daoist type of Chinese medicine

doesn't use music, unless it's nature sounds. She says that it's not

healthy to try to manipulate the body with five element music.... at least

it's not wu-wei.... free and easy action or (non-striving action).

But, we do it all of the time with acupuncture and herbs, so I don't see why

it's a problem...

I personally like Gu Qin music, which has all 5 elements in it... originally

it had 5 strings to represent each element. The Gu Qin is what the old

blind man in the movie " Hero " was playing, while Jet Li was mind-fighting

with Donnie Yuen.

Here's a simple chart of the five phasic music dynamics.

You can choose for instance more Vivaldi for balancing the heart or Carlos

Nakai to balance out the liver or Mickey Hart for the kidneys or Dizzy

Gillespie for the lungs or Ella Fitzgerald for the spleen (sweet sounds)

Strings = heart ( " zhi or ke " )

Drums = kidney ( " yu " )

Wood wind instruments = liver ( " jue " )

Metal wind instruments = lung ( " shang " )

Voice = spleen/ heart (all five).... ( " gong " )

The Four Reliances:

Do not rely upon the individual, but rely upon the teaching.

As far as teachings go, do not rely upon the words alone, but rely upon the

meaning that underlies them.

Regarding the meaning, do not rely upon the provisional meaning alone, but

rely upon the definitive meaning.

And regarding the definitive meaning, do not rely upon ordinary

consciousness, but rely upon wisdom awareness.
