Male infertility-morphology

Hi,

Anyone know what diagnosis is usually involved with a morphology

issue with male infertility?

I have a new patient that had a sperm analysis done and came up with

having good numbers on everything except sperm morphology, which was

a 9 on the Kruger test. I've tried to find good information on

treating this issue and have not found much out there. I've had

quite a bit of success treating female infertility but not much

experience with male infertility. He does not have a lot of symptoms

to go by, so its not too clear to me what his diagnosis is. One

source said that morphology issues are yin deficient heat, another

said blood stagnation. He does have erection problems--difficulty

with both maintaining an erection and with premature ejaculation. He

also is in recovery for sex addiction and has a history of excessive

masturbation which I'm sure drained his kidney energy. He said that

this issue started when he was only 3 years old--so definitely a

drain there--plenty of reason to suspect yin deficient fire but his

tongue does not appear yin deficient. I've treated him in the past

for back pain which responded to clearing dampheat, so perhaps the

dampness is masking the yin deficiency.

Any thoughts?

I had encountered similar problems with a patient and perhaps you should look

into vericocelectomy surgery-very efficient,plus herbs like Ho-Shou

wu,Astragalous Tribulus(spermogenesis) Rehmania and Liv/Kid Yin tonics like

Dabuyin,my suggestion would be herb teas not so much pills but more like regular

good old fassion Herbs, also definitely a blood moving formula with

Salvia, perhaps heat clearing formulas and blood tonifying formulas

Tom ?

I was taught that:

- low motility is yang deficiency

- abnormal morphology is blood stasis

- low sperm volume/ poor liquefaction is KI yin deficiency or SP deficiency

- and that Liver qi congestion and phlegm-damp can also cause

infertility, but I don't know what the analysis would look like for these

I was told that dan shen and dang gui are especially good for abnormal

morphology.

I haven't tried any of this stuff in my practice, but I learned it from

Li Fang Liang who knows her business when it comes to infertility.

Hi Ariel, thank you so much for sharing this information. Being a

blood deficient type I have a tendency to project my issues on my

patients a bit and avoid using much in the way of blood moving

herbs. So without this input I probably would have avoided that

path.
