ear stapling ... infringement upon our scope of practice?

I found this on craigslist today while searching for acupuncture. it

appears that these people are using acupuncture points and methods, and

i don't believe that they have any kind of certification process or

safety standards. it looks to me like there is actually penetration of

the skin, which in my mind, would make this 'acupuncture'. does anyone

have any idea of the legality of this?

Marie,

The legality will depend on each state's laws and regs. In some

states, it might be legal under ear/body piercing laws and regs. But

the health claims made would seem to move the procedure into the realm

of acupuncture/medicine in most states.

<<How Long Does It Last?

Staples last 2-3 months. Everyone is different in how their body reacts to

Acupuncture. >>

They clearly call it acupuncture on the site. There is no indication from the

site that they are

not employing or using licensed acupuncturists to perform the procedure. The

question is

should any one be doing this... The chances of complications with ear tacks are

already high

this is all the more so...

How about this one? Looks like a chiropuncturist

I have tried using the ASP needles that are made by Sedatelec, and now

available through Lhasa OMS. I had a couple of really good experiences and

a couple of really bad experiences. It is too much of a coin toss for me at

this point to use them. I can't imagine it is much better with the staples.
