Guest guest
Anyone out there treated anyone who also happens to have a MRSA infection? Anyone work in a hospital, nursing home, assisted living facility where MRSA is found, and are there policies regarding acupuncture and MRSA? Meaning, should acupuncture be prohibited on a person that is colonized, or with an actively infected sore on their face? By the way, something like 30% of direct care delivery providers are colonized with MRSA. I found 3 cases of staph infections supposedly caused by acupuncture in European adverse effects literature. One from a knee treatment that resolved easily, and 2 MRSA infections in immune compromised female patients with Rheumatoid arthritis and they died form the MRSA. The author alleges that it was the acupcunture, but bears no evidence that it is true. (and, BTW, uses this to make the case of why non docs/non nurses should not be able to do acupcunture because we don't have enough western training to avoid these situations......) I have consulted an ER doc of 30 years who now does acupcunture full time, taught medical ethics, has been an expert witness more than 100 times in court (not about acupuncture but about medicine) and he says virtually impossible to infect a patient with MRSA with an acupcunture needle, unless maybe in the groin area with the bacterial load is very high. Thanks, Laura Cooley
