my new world press edition of the jin gui lists cortex prunus armeniacae as

the final herb for running piglet (bentun) decoction (clause 8-3). it

doesn't give the pin yin, and i can't find it in bensky's materia medica.

does anyone know the pinyin, what herb is this and what are it's properties?

thanks,

kath

Kath,

Cortex prunus armeniacae is the bark of the apricot tree.  Its pinyin is Xin Ren

Shu Pi and alone  it treats overdoses of xing ren.Though I hadn''t heard of it

used in ben tun tang, a similar herb, Gan Li Gen Bai Pi, (Cortex Radicis Pruni

Triflora) which is the peach tree bark, is listed as one of the ingredients in a

text that I have.

All the best,
