I understand that this is an autistic disorder which can cause different sorts of incapacities, but cannot find information about TCM approach to this condition anywhere. This girl does not talk, does not walk and has little muscle strength to support her own body. She then has other symtoms such as constipation at times, bruxism, etc. My question is if anyone has experience in the treatment of such type of condition, and if not, if you agree that individual symptoms should be treated according to needs, and kidney and liver Qi in general tonified. For details please visit the following web site: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/rett/detail_rett.htm Regarding treatment of this disorder from TCM perpective you need to make the diagnosis on the pattern the patient presents and choose the points accordingly, most cases show improvement both in motor, behavioural and cognitive aspects. Guest guest Posted September 15, 2008 Report Share Posted September 15, 2008 Hi Dr. Shahzad, Thank you for your help, I am slightly confused with the classification of this disorder as some sources still consider that Rett syndrome is an autistic disorder, the most severe form and the only one with a known cause (the mutation in the gene MECP2), as you can check on the website of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation http://www.rettsyndrome.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage & Itemid=1 Plus, there are few known male cases now, which is making it all more confusing. But anyway, your feeback is helpful and so I will follow your advice and choose treatment based on pattern differentiation.
