I was taught that the safety or toxicity of a medicinal was based on proper administration. I have taken both Ban Xia and Fu Zi numerous times and prescribe them even to my family. They are wonderful medicinals. Wouldn't you agree that when we use them in the right dosage and situation (based on patterns) guided by our training and experience, we aren't using them indiscriminately? It seems that your training and usage has lead you to scrutinize these medicinals carefully. I have a world of respect for your reminder to be aware. The last thing our community needs is wrong or improper use impacting our public image and access to medicinals as was done with Ma Huang. I agree with you that we should always be clear of what we are doing, to whom and for how long. I think that statements like... " Don't poison your patients " might overstate the position. At face value it sounds as if ANY use of Ban Xia would poison someone with deleterious effects. I definitely don't agree with that, but agree that we should always be very aware and clear.
