I've got the vertical nail thing---and been looking for answers for ages now---but no one seemed to know. Where do you get this info?

And what does one do about this? Is it an enzyme imbalance?

Thanks much

Vertical ridges usually indicate malabsorption of proteins and minerals - mainly from hydrochloric acid defiency in the stomach. Horizontal ridges usually are a deficiency in iron. If the nail (or the nail bed benath it) is colorless (white - not pinkish) that can be a B12 deficiency.--- On Wed, 4/28/10, Mridula Sharma <mridula49 > wrote:

Yes my mother had ridges I am also over 60 years and not at all old, i am also developing these but my nails from a very long time get split in layers I keep taking calcarea , calcarea fluor and silicea cell salts to get healthy nails and bones.. Rubbing lemon on the nails is also go. vinegar has its own benefits on nails it works even on ingrown nails . so that can be tried. i haven't experienced these splits in some time now.

I've had vertical nail ridges, but thought nothing of it. My doctor said it was part of aging. I'm 62, I don't consider myself as old.Last night my thumb ridge split right down the middle. Is there any remedy, other then bandaid's? My other fingers are developing verticle ridges too. My toenails have horizonal ridges, not all toes but some. Cause? remedy?Thank you,Magnolia

As Tony said malabsorption and also lack of hydrochloric acid. this is what helps in absorption so if we have lime juice along with food it will help. B6, B 12, and folic acid deficiency is what i see in most of the cases ranging from anger, to cramps, depression,Parkinson's and Alzheimer's so we must try to eat greens and other foods that provide us with these. Simple solution but we should know of it.

The enzymes I recommend contain betaine hydrochloride, pepsin, ox bile and pancreatin extract. This is taken before or early in the meal. For those having digestive upsets in addition to vertical nail ridges, I recommend vegetable-source enzymes containing lipase and protease (plus other "ase" substances). These should be taken at mid-meal or after meal. These are readily available in most health stores and thru the better on-line suppliers.--- On Thu, 4/29/10, Bea Bernhausen <beabernhausen wrote:
