Guest guest
BBB warns of grant scamCharlotte Business Journal The Better Business Bureau of the Southern Piedmont is warning consumers about e-mails promoting government grant scams. The e-mails promote the idea that millions of dollars in government grant funding is available to “U.S. citizens.”The solicitors seek an advance fee to pay for software to search for grants. Consumers who pay these fees will be instructed to wire the money to Canada and then they will not receive the services they thought would help get them government grant funding. Fees can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.“This is a new twist on government grant scams,” says Tom Bartholomy, chief executive of the local bureau. “These scammers are using the economic downturn as a way to prey on consumers who are experiencing financial hardships.”http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/stories/2009/02/09/daily14.html 1 of 1 Photo(s)
