Sully somehow escaped the clubs of sealers.Watch his amazing story, then help save more animals like him. Trouble with links or images? View this message online. He was the one who got away.In the aftermath of the Canadian seal hunt last March, our team from The Humane Society of the United States landed our helicopter on an ice floe off Canada's east coast. Blood and carcasses were everywhere, and we didn't expect to find any seal survivors. And then we saw him. In the midst of the carnage, a small seal pup cowered in an ice cave, hiding his head as we approached. The sealers had overlooked him in their hurry to kill every seal in sight. This poor baby seal had just witnessed hundreds of his friends beaten to death, and he was trembling all over. I knew the only thing we could do to help him was to leave. With the seal hunt closed in the area, we knew he would be safe. I named him Sully, and to me he represents the millions of seals I fight for every day. Watch Sully’s story, then become a Humane Hero with your monthly donation to our 2010 Animal Survivors Fund. Sully was a lucky survivor: More than 72,000 baby seals last spring weren't so lucky. They were clubbed or shot to death for their fur. To help save thousands of seals and other animals in the new year, we’re hoping to raise a million dollars online by December 31 for our 2010 Animal Survivors Fund. It’s ambitious -- but so are our plans for saving animals next year. We'll not only continue our campaign to stop Canada's barbaric commercial seal hunt once and for all, but we'll also take on other individuals and industries that profit from animal suffering -- from people who fight dogs in the ring, to those who confine animals in factory farms, to those who abuse dogs in puppy mills. Your gift of $20.10 a month for 2010 -- just 66 cents a day -- can help thousands of animals like Sully not just survive, but thrive in the new year. Click here to watch Sully’s video and make your tax-deductible monthly donation today. Thank you for everything you do for seals and all animals. Sincerely, Rebecca AldworthExecutive Director, Humane Society International/Canada The Humane Society of the United States P.S. Because of our efforts to close global markets for seal products, prices for seal fur in Canada crashed. Sealers were allowed to kill 332,000 seals, but killed 72,000 because the prices had dropped so dramatically. That’s 260,000 seals who survived because of our global efforts against the fur trade -- and your donation today will bring us even closer to ending the seal hunt forever. © 2009 The Humane Society of the United States | All rights reserved 2100 L Street, NW | Washington, DC 20037humanesociety | 202-452-1100 | humanesociety.org We are committed to protecting your privacy, so your email address will NEVER be sold, rented, or exchanged.
