virus, which causes death, is very aggressive, it does not strike the

trachea, but immediately gets into the lungs and causes heavy

swelling and solid hemorrhage. Mixed types of parainfluenza and

influenza A/N1N1 lead to this state. This is a very toxic strain,

which has not yet answered to the treatment of the Ministry of

Health " , - said Viktor Bachinsky.

 

According to him, there is a need to change the treatment standards,

because those which were used earlier, resulted in nothing doctors

failed to save all people infected with the virus in the reanimation.

The belt ventilators did not help also.

 

For this reason a group of professors of Chernivtsi Medical

University appealed to the Ministry of Health and National Security

and Defense Council with a demand to review the standards of

treatment of patients in Bukovyna. Scientists-morphologists sent to

Kyiv reports, studies and analysis of critically ill patients and

people who died of virus.

 

Viktor Bachinsky noted that the virus is extremely toxic, it is able

to penetrate not only through respiratory apparatus but also through

the eyes. Chernovtsy scientists recommend in any case use masks and

even wear protective spectacles. An important condition to prevent

deterioration of the situation is also the observance of quarantine regime.

If you get the H1N1 flu this winter, forget about getting life

insurance for a while. Even if you recover.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians could come down with the H1N1 flu

this season. If youre among them, and your brush with the deadly bug

motivates you to take out life insurance, get ready for a shock.

Insurance companies may treat you like you have the plague.

 

Lorne Marr, president of <http://lsminsurance.ca/>LSM Insurance in

Markham, Ont., says that insurance companies wont treat you

differently if you have the regular flu, unless you end up in

hospital. But underwriters are breaking down H1N1 applicants into

three categories: those who currently have the flu, those who had a

mild case and recovered, and those who were hospitalized. Those who

have it now wont be considered for coverage until they get better, he

says, while those who have recovered from a mild case have to wait

two to three months. Those unlucky enough to be hospitalized may not

qualify for life insurance for a full year.

 

Marrs assessment is based on feedback from insurance industry

underwriters. But when contacted by MoneySense, several insurance

companies denied having such rules. One spokesperson told me I could

qualify for a policy even if I had the swine flu right now.

 

To check, I called her companys 1-800 number and asked to take out

life insurance. I pretended that Id recently been released from

hospital with a bout with swine flu. After several back and forths

with an underwriter, the phone representative said the company

wouldn't consider me until two to three months after a doctor said I

was cured. They want to see some stability before they make a

decision, I was told. Who knows if you're more prone to getting it

again. The good news: assuming I did qualify for insurance later, I

wouldn't be penalized for having had H1N1.

To avoid such delays, Marr suggests that if you've been thinking

about getting life insurance, you may want to do it now, while you're

still healthy. If its too late, and you need to get life insurance

right after a bout of the swine flu, your only immediate option is a

policy that doesn't require disclosure of any medical information.

The premiums on such policies, however, can be awfully steep usually

three times as much as a normal policy.

Flu Pandemic' A Dud, Says Canada

 

 

The huge investments governments made in swine flu pandemic planning

have not been justified, an Ontario health official said Thursday. Dr

Richard Schabas, Ontario's former chief medical officer of health and

now chief medical officer of health for Hastings and Prince Edward

counties in eastern Ontario said: " It's really not causing - and is

not going to cause and nowhere has caused - significant levels of

illness or death. But governments moved ahead regardless. They ramped

up their response, spent a huge amount of money on vaccines and other

things. I'm not sure the $1.5 billion includes the cost of new

ventilators, the cost of Tamiflu stockpiles the huge investment

that's been put into planning for what has ultimately turned out to

be, from a pandemic perspective, a dud. " In another development, an

EKOS poll conducted exclusively for CBC News suggests more than half

of Canadians surveyed believe concerns over the risk of H1N1 a re exaggerated.
