Higher levels of body fat associated with health and death risk advantages in the elderly

While the medical establishment and health agencies seem hell bent on having us conform to a 'healthy' or 'normal' body mass index (BMI), the reality is that the evidence shows that 'overweight' (according to the BMI) individuals are actually at the lowest risk of death overall. Some have suggested that a bit of extra weight can be an advantage during a critical illness, in that it can act as a fuel reserve to be drawn upon in times of need. Some support for this notion has come from a recent study that found that in the elderly, increased body fatness is associated with a reduced risk of death. For more on this, click this link.
