Guest guest
I found the following tid-bit interesting http://charlotte.floridaweekly.com:80/news/2009/0730/health/017.html ............. Speaking of brains… A soon-to-be published study out of Iowa State University suggests that cholesterol reducing drugs (statins) may lessen brain function. Inhibiting the production of cholesterol in the liver also inhibits the brain from making cholesterol which is vital to efficient brain function. According to lead researcher, Yeon-Kyun Shin, biophysics professor, "If you deprive cholesterol from the brain, then you directly affect the machinery that triggers the release of neurotransmitters… Neurotransmitters affect the data-processing and memory functions. In other words — how smart you are and how well you remember things." Could increases in statin drug use be contributing to an increase in Alzheimer's disease and other diseases of the aging brain? If your doctor has recommended a statin drug, ask him about natural methods of lowering cholesterol (like checking thyroid function) before going on the statins. It could save your brain. ¦
