It is too costly and often as late as those rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. There is increasing despair among health care workers and millions of Americans are without adequate health care coverage. Doctors are suffering, patients are suffering. Studies in the last 40 years by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention have confirmed that physicians die by suicide more frequently than others of their gender and age in both the general population and other professional occupations. O.K. We all know that. But in the words of Albert Szent-Gyorgy " Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought. " Or better yet, seeing what everybody is seeing and actually doing what we need to but are not doing. The first of which is: 1) Think differently about health. Instead of seeing symptoms as something foreign that some expert gives you a drug for, see your symptoms as clues to changes that you need to make. With a little nudging, you probably even know what those changes look like. 2) Get more sleep. Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest problems in society today. Learn to take breaks and cat naps. Schedule in extra sleep time. Allow yourself to rest. 3) One of the most restful and replenishing things you can do is to meditate. Meditation really does work to calm the system and rejuvenate the mind. You can actually get more done by disengaging the cluttered conscious mind and reach deeper places of inspiration and relaxation. 4) Social interaction and more importantly connection, improves overall well-being and strengthens the heart and immune system. Volunteering to help others less fortunate is a great way to boost self-esteem and bring love in your world. Find a lonely elder and see how you can be of service. We live a very isolated culture. 5) Fast 1 day a week with just pure water or fruit or vegetables. Giving the digestive system a break and alkalizing the blood can greatly increase energy. 6) Take a class on how to prepare raw or healthy foods. Compare that to your current diet. 7) Get a little socially active. In an article 'Thinking Differently about Healthcare' by John de Graaf, " In every country in the world except, believe it or not, the United States, Liberia, Swaziland and Papua New Guinea, mothers, and often, fathers, are guaranteed paid time off from work to take care of newborns. In many cases, such " family leave " extends for up to a year or more. In the US, by contrast, parents often return to work when children are only a few weeks old. " We experience how stressed and overworked everyone is. You'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to see how the media slams alternative health. What's crazy is accepting that the wrong elements of society are making policies that are anti-humane. Go on-line. Pick a cause and donate a little time and/or money. Being pro-active can greatly increase empowerment and health. 8) Not only does exercise help give you more energy, but it increases the biochemistry in the brain to help you think clearer. Just do it. Dance, hike, go to the gym. 9) Consciously love yourself more. 10) Do one thing you really love to do everyday; take a bath, sit in a sauna, hug a loved one, relish your hobbies. Health is both an art and a science. Take care of your health and it will take care of you. originalwave.com
