Guest guest
I communicated with someone who owns several groups and asked him if he had the marketing response email problem. This is his response, and hopefully this might help to solve it. I am still getting them. Hanneke Okay, then the next thing is to determine whether it is legitimately coming from -- or the more probable scenario, wherein a group r who's on Individual Mail, is the culprit (whether deliberate, or otherwise). I've had many of those type of attempts on my own group over the years (but since it's fully moderated, I can deal with it and the group flow is never disrupted). They often involve redirection of posts to a (corporate) email address which generates an auto-response (and in fact, often that is the way the culprit actually manages to that third-party address to the group in the first place.. because asks for a confirmation of the subscription request, and the auto-response will of course satisfy that request). The group owner should immediately search the membership list for mailserver (or any address with the overture.com domain), and if found, then Ban the thing asap. If that fails, then feel free to forward one of them to me *as an attachment*, and I'll figure out the actual source. avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. Guest guest
Thanks for the info--I checked my groups and it doesn't appear in either of them. I think the source would be Health_and_healing as it showed up after posts to and from there. This info should be brought to the attention of the owner and or moderators of Health_and_healing. I am Cc'ing it to the group owner. Cheers Bea PS--Hanneke--did you block the search marketing address mailserver ? If not you should do so. That should end getting mail from them.--- On Fri, 4/3/09, Hanneke <blosshan wrote: Hanneke <blosshan For the group owner regarding the yohoo marketing spam email. Guest guest
Bea, I can't figure out how to block it from coming through. Apart from that, even if I put a filter in, I might not see it coming in but it doesn't stop it from being sent by who ever is doing it. . It should not be send in the first place. Guest guest
I haven't used my email box for the last 5 years. The spam in there is absolutely shocking. The only mail coming in IS spam mail. That was from before they started providing spam blockers etc. Around 800 emails per month. If and when I think of it I empty it. Last clean up was 1020 spam emails. Even the automatic delete after so many days (30?) doesn't seem to be effective on the account. I receive all my mail to my main email address. This spam email is the only one is receive but only as a direct result of posting to the H & H group. I think the source would be Health_and_healing as it showed up after posts to and from there. This info should be brought to the attention of the owner and or moderators of Health_and_healing. I am Cc'ing it to the group owner. Cheers Bea PS--Hanneke- -did you block the search marketing address mailserver@overture .com ? If not you should do so. That should end getting mail from them. --- On Fri, 4/3/09, Hanneke <blosshan (AT) internode (DOT) on.net> wrote: Hanneke <blosshan (AT) internode (DOT) on.net> [Health_and_ Healing] For the group owner regarding the yohoo marketing spam email. Friday, April 3, 2009, 6:48 PM I communicated with someone who owns several and asked him if he had the marketing response email problem. The group owner should immediately search the membership list for mailserver@overture .com (or any address with the overture.com domain), and if found, then Ban the thing asap. If that fails, then feel free to forward one of them to me *as an attachment*, and I'll figure out the actual source. avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean.
