Hi All

I am making an ointment for inflammation---

so far I have an olive oil base with comfrey and calendula flowers that have been melding for about 6 months. I am going to starin and add MSM powder and I have liquid DMSO (it is hard to get here in Canada). I am wondering if anyone has any other ingredients they can think of adding. Also I was thinking to use beeswax to harden it into ointment form. Would all this combine well with the DMSO? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Bea

Sounds great - I might use the MII cream as a base and that already has the MII minerals in it and is therapeutic on its own and I would add turmeric to your ingredients and for preservative might use Vit E (colloidal silver added to the MSM turns the whole thing black) - or I might use grapefruit seed extract for preservative - yes I would add DMSO too

Was thinking of making something a bit like that to encourage healing in a rather large stubborn wound - I thought a drop of DMSO and Magnescent Iodine to some of the MII gel - what do you think?

I'm taking turmeric internally---but it would stain too much in an ointment. Thanks for the suggestion though---I know turmeric is really good.

I'm doing turmeric internally---would stain too much in ointment. Thanks for the heads up on C silver. What is the MII cream? Is it Miracle II? I have the liquid of that should I add some? Just wondering how to get all this to harden enough. How much Vit E would I have to use? Would Vit C work as preservative? (Asc acid?), Sounds like the iodine/DMSO would work, I have Lugols--but again it would stain too much.

Making ointments is a tricky proposition and will be a lot more expensive than buying them. Arnica, calendula, etc are readily available.

While topicals may give quicker relief, all antioxidants and fatty acids are excellent anti-inflammatory agents and are more effective internally if used in an ongoing basis.

DMSO, all by itself, is effective and quick but OPTI-MSM in large doses (10 gm/day) is even better to effect a "cure" (long-term relief)--- On Sat, 3/7/09, Bea Bernhausen <beabernhausen wrote:

Hi Bea,

Don't know if you have any on hand or have tried it, but shea butter is a

wonderfully soothing emollient, and is solid at room temperature. Adding some

to your salve would probably help to get it to harden up, and maybe even add to

its anti-inflammatory properties as well.

This site looks to have unrefined shea butter from Ghana (the real deal) at a

decent price:

Virgin coconut oil might be another possibility. It's solid at room temperature

too.

You might also consider adding some powdered ginger, which is a powerful

anti-inflammatory herb.

I will look out the cream recipe I have for you - it ended up being really stiff - but then in the making one could always add more liquid ingredients - and Jeanne Rose's Herbal Body Book has some great recipes in it too ....
