The reason I joined this group is, friend is pregnant and just had her mastectomy. Her lymph nodes were clear and her biopsy post the surgery was clean. She has IDC and is triple negative. She is very reluctant in getting chemo done while she is pregnant. But all the oncologists she has met for first, second and third opinions have all recommended she go through chemo soon since triple negative is supposed to be more aggressive. They say, If she doesn't there is a big chance that the cancer will relapse and her survival chances will be low. Since chemo is more effective when done within 12 weeks of her surgery, she is time bound. She is in a big dillemma and wants to consult with a good naturopath who has had experience dealing with cancer patients as she just doesn't think going through chemo is good for her or her baby. Any insight or experience with this kind of case will be appreciated. Or any suggestions for a good naturopath oncologist that we can consult with preferably in the bay area? Thanks in advance. Also, breast cancers tend to be estrogen-positive. Since pregnant women are higher in progesterone than estrogen, they are less likely to promote cancer at this stage. The key role of a therapist at this point would be to prevent metastasis of present cancers without concern for killing present cancers. The body considers the fetus a foreign object more positively than it does cancer. Chemo is more likely to attack the fetus than the cancer. Another factor to be considered here is the present and future mental state of the woman. What if the woman used chemotherapeutic agents to protect herself and gave birth to an immunosuppressed child who was sickly through life and/or died an early death after a miserable existence? How would a surviving mother react, knowing that the cost for keeping her alive was the health of her baby. Doctors are told to deny pregnant women important nutrients and herbs because of their dangers, yet they do not hesitate to prescribe dangerous drugs during pregnancy. Their system is counter-intuitive and without conscience or science in the treatment of most cancers and is particularly deficient in statistics regarding chemo during pregnency. This is just my opinion as a health practitioner. But, the decision is yours - not the doctor's. First, second, and third opinions of oncologists are usually the same since they read their standards of care from the same sheet of paper. I think this type is more aggressive but I would be reluctant to use chemo as well. How far along is she? I belong to a breast cancer group. I will pose this question. I know several ladies were diagnosed while still breastfeeding but can't remember if any were pregnant. I think this is a closed group but I will check with the listmom and I am sure that you could join. She said her son was fine, no issues at all. In fact, she tried very hard to make it to his wedding, but had brain mets and was gone shortly before it. A 25 year remission was a huge gift for her, and she had another son two years after her first as well. I would do it if it were me knowing how well it worked for her. You might contact Jonathan Wright, Julian Whitaker or Ralph Moss for this kind of info. Cancer Centers of America combine mainstream cancer treatments with alternative treatment so they might provide more complete ideas on what to do and how to do it. Guest guest Posted March 3, 2009 Report Share Posted March 3, 2009 I read your question on the IBC board and wanted to tell you that there is a great organization called pregnantwithcancer.org and that I know 5 women that had chemo while pregnant and had beautiful, healthy children - normally chemo is done after the pregnancy is 16 weeks along... Also, make sure she knows about Young Survival Coalition...we have bulletin boards with many women who were pregnant with cancer and can match her up to speak directly to a woman that has been through this experience! Has the DNA been so altered that they will be susceptible to many other diseases or early-onset of major cancer processes?
