On this website, I came across a lot of interesting info regarding

herbs plus references to other websites.

I also found this note regarding the use of Hawthorn:

Notes about Hawthorn berry*:Hawthorn should not be

taken for more than a few weeks without medical supervision.

I have done some searches to find more info on this precautionary note

but can't seem to find anything stating a reason for the

warning.

Would anyone knowledgeable here have further information?

Thank you

Hanneke

Hanneke I use information from James A Duke, Ph.D. The Green Pharmacy Herbal Handbook.

He sees no real problem taking hawthorne EXCEPT if you are taking Digitalis.

He sees hawthorne a 'supreme' supplement for cardiovascular system.

quote: hawthorne is for all practical purposes, mostly a cardiovascular supplement - and a supreme one at that as clinical studies have proved, its medicinal ingredients (including proanthocyanidins and flavonoids such as quercetin, hyperoside, vitexin, vitexinrhamnoside, and rutin) improve the heart muscle's metabolism, allowing for better contractions and more stable rythmic beating; dilate coronary blood vessels, permitting a larger, freer flow of blood and oxygen; deter the release of substance called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which has been identified as a cause of high Blood Pressure; and protect vessels, collagen, and other tissue from oxidizing damage. p174 The Green Pharmacy Herbal Handbook
