Guest guest Posted February 6, 2009 Report Share Posted February 6, 2009 If you do have to "Head fot the hills" This is a list of the stuff you should have ready to go at a minutes notice! $1000 in cash in small bills $200 in coins $1000 in gold and silver coins (if you have it) Your ID Spare set of keys for your car, house, etc. A full change of clothes, preferably two Heavy Winter coat Cold-weather gear like gloves, scarves, ear muffs, hats, etc. 20 gallons of water 40 gallons of extra fuel (and a full gas tank) Good, warm hiking boots Ready-to-eat food like MREs Prescription drugs you may need Extra eyeglass or contact supplies if you wear these A basic first aid kit, or more advanced kit if you have one A CB radio, already wired A phone book listing all important numbers of your family, friends, etc. A handgun, a shotgun, and a rifle, with at least 200 rounds for each A military-style belt for carrying this stuff Good flashlight Rechargeable batteries and solar-recharger A good compass The best water filter you can buy (Katadyn would be nice…) Portable fuel for heating & cooking (propane works nicely) and a portable camping stove A raincoat Show shoes if you live in a heavy-snow area A detailed map of your area, showing every dirt road within 200 miles A spare tire and a jack As much extra food as you can carry A tarp, a pillow, a sleeping bag and other basic sleeping gear (a tent, if you have room) Copies of all your important paperwork: insurance policies, deeds, titles, licenses, degrees, tax returns, etc. Good combat knife Fishing rod & reel with extra hooks, lures, fishing line and other parts Several lighters Whistle Water purification tablets Space blanket Waterproof matches and basic magnesium fire starter Needles and basic sewing kit Insect repellant Mini-hatchet 200’ of cord A book on edible plants Another book on wilderness survival muli-purpose combination survival tool Magnifying glass Wire saw (from CTD) Some extra ziplock bags Tweezers Scissors Thread Tampons Condoms Screwdriver, hammer, hatchet, and folding shovel Safety pins Metal signaling mirror A few small nails A can opener Soap Towel & face cloth Tooth brush and paste Work gloves Mess kit Animal trap (if you have the room) Duct tape Thermometer Knife sharpener Rubber slingshot Extra sunglasses Now, if you have all this stuff, you aught to be able to live off the land for weeks, even months!
