Guest guest
Anella, Some possible reasons as to why he is getting these are: Diet- acidic foods, things he may be allergic to. Hormones - he is a preteen who will be going through puberty in the next few years and his hormones could be changing. Immune system - he could need some immune boosting to get his system a little bit stronger. Tooth paste - tooth paste with sodium laurel sulfate could be causing the problem. Or a vitamin deficiency. Some possible remedies are: -apply baking soda to the canker sore -put some goldenseal powder (or total healing poultice powder) with a pinch of salt in water and use as a mouth wash. -Use aloe vera juice as a mouth wash or apply to the sore. - Put tooth and gum on the sore or use as a mouth wash. Hope this helps or gives you some ideas to bounce off of!!! Guest guest
Hi Anella, I suffered from canker sores most of my life. For me it was an acid alkaline imbalance, which Doc has alot of great information on. I found that taking vitamin C tablets and avoiding tomatoes and Citrus fruits helped during an out break and making sure I get plenty of vitamin C normally helped alot. Guest guest
Can you please explain how stomach heat brings about canker sores and how the Chinese remedy you mentioned clears this up? Will this CURE the ailment or will it alleviate this particular symptom? Thank you for your time, Joy S

Guest guest
I'm in the same camp as Barbara on this one. I had CONSTANT canker sores as a kid. When I was in college I went on a " grapefruit " diet and ended up with a canker sore that enveloped my entire lower jaw. It had started causing a fever and the Dr. had to sear with some silver melted q-tip from hell. That was when we realized I was allergic to citrus. I still can't eat lemons, limes, oranges, pineapples...anything citrus or I get a new bout of canker sores. Still to this day and I'm 50 now. Does your son drink a lot or orange juice or lemonade or even eat SweetTart or Smarties candies? Guest guest
Bryan, Go to your field and harvest some Plaintain. It is supposed to be good for mouth sores. See? Here is what is said about plaintain (plantago major): What are the medical uses? Plantain is used for treating insect bites and stings, snake bites, sunburn, poison ivy, rashes, blisters, burns, and cuts (kershaw, 2000). It is also used to treat cancer, coughs, hypertension and mouth sores. Plantain also has anti-inflammatory effects. What chemicals are in it? Plantain is rich in vitamins A, C, and K. They also contain eleven different chemicals with antihypertensive activities. These chemicals are Alpha-Linolenic-Acid, Arginine, Ascorbic Acid, Calcium, Fiber, Gaba, Magnesium, Potassium, Quercetin, Rutin, and Tryptophan (Dr. Duke, 2003). Other chemicals include Flavonoids, Allantoin, and Tannin. Older leaves can be steeped in hot water to produce a tea that some use as a mouthwash to treat mouth sores and toothaches. A poultice is also made to treat sores, blisters, insect bites, and other external injuries. Whole seeds have a laxative effect if eaten raw. With the recent interest in medicinal plants, many plantain-related products are now available for upper respiratory tract infections and other ailments. Guest guest
No, citrus or candy is not the problem here. I suspect a ph imbalance. I will try what has been a flood of new suggestions though.
