That's bad folks. That's real bad. Store bought Almond milk is not the greatest. It is soooo much better to make your own. Just throw raw almonds in a blender with some water and strain. Guest guest
I don't know anyone with almond tree, but I can get raw almonds and eat them on occasion. I do drink almond milk, but my fave is rice milk and hemp milk. The rice milk I use is organic. I would use them for oatmeal, buckwheat and other cereals. Guest guest
I don't have an almond tree, don't think they grow in Ohio, but I have been trying to plant as much as I can. My goal is for my entire backyard to be edible. I only have 1 1/2 acres, but I've darn near planted the whole thing! I have apples, pears, peaches, elderberries, strawberries, blueberries. Also planted plums, currants, serviceberries, hazelnut, paw paw, gingko, and many others. Some are producing, but others are still small, but thriving. I also have numerous herbs planted everywhere. I also have a flock of backyard chickens. I never knew how much fun chickens could be! And of course, I plant a garden every year. Guest guest
Yum Paw Paw's I haven't had one since I was a girl! Guest guest
I have an almond tree. The flowers are beautiful, but it is not very productive and I don't know how to process them. My neighbor keeps bees so pollination is not an issue. It maybe produces 8-10 peach-like fruits, then they rot on the tree, fall to the ground and the bee's have an all-nighter with them. I live in South Carolina so it may not be the best climate wise, hot and humid. It is an adult tree and I've had it for about 8 years. Any suggestions? herbal remedies , " Kathy " <vanokat wrote: > > Wow I never thought of that. I have never seen a almond tree and no one I know has one. I have a bunch of walnut trees though. Guest guest
I’m so jealous Peg – We have about 5 ½ acres but less than half that is usable (we’re on part of a very nice pond which takes at least half) and the rest is questionable. I too, have tried to squeeze in edible things here and there – what zone are you in Ohio? I’m borderline Zone 4/5 which drastically reduces what I could possibly grow here. Hazelnuts would be cool as would almonds, cashews and the whole 9 yards J Lisa herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of pjc2224 Wednesday, March 31, 2010 8:41 PM herbal remedies {Herbal Remedies} Re:Who has an almond tree? Guest guest
I am in NE Ohio, between Akron and Youngstown, Zone 5/6. The hazelnuts are small seedlings right now, but they are a small shrub/tree, so I should see nuts in just a couple few years. I have had a very hard time getting the Paw Paw's started, but I have two that are doing good. The blueberries are probably two-three years and should start producing very well. I think I have 10 blueberry bushes. I have 8 red currant bushes that should start producing this year as well. One year, I picked elderberries in the neighboring woods and made wine and jam. I compost everything, and I think every elderberry seed that I composted grew! I ended up transplanting 16 of the little shrubs. They are doing very well and I should have a good crop of them this summer. I also have a small pond on my little 1 1/2 acres. I had it cleaned out last summer and this summer I am hoping to stock it with fish for food as well. BUT, I seem to have a bunch of little snapping turtles in it at the moment. I can see about 4 or 5 of them sunning on the bank every afternoon. Peg
Guest guest
Sounds like a wonderful place you have there Peg and around the area we want to move to. Portage County to be exact. If we ever get a place I want about the same as you plus a pond. So hopefully I can start growing my own stuff! Donna ACS I am in NE Ohio, between Akron and Youngstown, Zone 5/6. Guest guest
I would think good compost would help. Maybe a few more Almond trees in your area would help the bees help you to get more fruits. Encourage neighbors to plant some. Tell them how rare and beautiful they are. ~B On 4/1/2010 10:46 AM, keeweedaly wrote: I have an almond tree. Guest guest
Donna, I am in Portage County! Edinburg to be exact. Right next to West Branch State Park. So, even though I only have 1 1/2 acres, I have a couple thousand acres that I can forage on. I love it! Are you in this area now? I am trying to start a group for foraging, so we can help each other identify local weeds that are edible. I've met an herbalist in Kent through another group, but thus far it is only her and I. Are you interested? It seems my only way to find "like minded folks" has been through groups like Herbal Remedies! Peg
