Guest guest
1st question: What would be the proper dosage and administration of Lobelia tincture for snoring? 2nd question: Is it safe to give Lobelia tincture to a 9month old infant for congestion? If so, how much is safe? Thank you for your time. MtMoonKitty
Guest guest
Hi Angela, If it were me, I'd take two dropperfuls of Lobelia before bed time and no more than 3 maximum all at one time or spread out over a few minutes. A lot of this depends on a person's weight and your question having to do with a 9 month old is very applicable here. You want to use the 150 Rule when it comes to dosages. On all my internal tinctures, the standard dosage (2 dropperfuls, 3 times a day) is based on this 150 Rule = the average weight of most men and women combined. Take the weight of the person or child and put their weight over 150 and then reduce the fraction. Example: A woman weighs 155 lbs, welllllllllll she'd just use the standard dosage of 2 dropperfuls, 3 times a day as 155 / 150 is too close to normal to really reduce any further, however, a child that only weighs 50 lbs would have their dosage cut down to 50/150 = 5/15 = 1/3rd the regular dosage = only 2 dropperfuls spread throughout the entire day such as half a dropperful 4 times a day. Your nine month old would probably only weigh around 18 lbs so would get an even smaller dosage = 18 / 150 = 6/50 = 3/25 = approximately 1/8th the normal dosage. At this stage of the game, we'd need to go to drops, not dropperfuls. There are approximately 32 to 36 drops in a dropperful (remember, we're not talking rocket science here) so your 18 pounder would get 1/8th of standard dosage = 2 dropperfuls, 3 times a day or a total of approx 34 drops times 6 = 204 drops divided by 8 = approx 26 drops a day. Spread out to 3 times a day, that would be approx 8 drops in the morning, 8 at noon and 8 in the evening. Very Important: You'll see above where I rounded off a couple of the numbers and because we're NOT talking rocket science here, you can get away with this. My rule of thumb is to always start off small and work up to larger amounts when it comes to dosages. This is always the safest way to do this especially when working with children or the elderly. I've never seen anyone permanently hurt using herbs and herbal preparations regardless of how stupid they were when it came to dosages, however, you can get very uncomfortable if you start off with too big a dose. We need to use our common sense here. If it were my infant, at that age, I'd actually start off with one drop, 3 times a day and up it to 8 as soon as I was assured there were no adverse reactions or major detox turning on. My Grand Daughter Zea (only 15 months old and 24lbs) = Kelly's baby, can knock back 3 full dropperfuls of Lobelia over a ten minute period with no adverse effects whatsoever and she's been taking it since she was about 4 months old. Soooooo, yes, start small but work up, as and when you can, and you'll get better results.
