Guest guest
Hi All, When it comes to using a “standard base” when creating tinctures (alcohol/distilled water) what proportions are used? Is it a 50/50 ratio? It’s the new moon and I want to get busy J Lisa P.S. Do all tinctures have distilled water in them? As the ones I’ve made thus far are strictly using alcohol…
Guest guest
Lisa, Standard base is either 100 proof vodka ( it IS 50% distilled water and 50% grain alcohol) or mix half 190 proof Everclear with half distilled water OR half 200% US Pharmaceutical grade alcohol with half distilled water. Guest guest
Ok, so we don’t have Everclear here in NH (bummer) and I do have 100 proof vodka. All the other tinctures I never added any distilled water just used straight vodka (Echinacea, Echinacea+, black walnut tincture, etc.) So does this mean that I should dump half of the mixture out, place it in a like-sized jar and add distilled water to fill it to the top – thus creating 50% distilled water and 50% 100 proof vodka. This is with ALL the tinctures? OR should I continue brewing the tinctures that I’ve made with 100% vodka and then I bottle them (when needed) – I add the distilled water then?!?! Either way…going forward I’ll definitely to the 50/50 ratio! Please confirm… and thanks for the info J Lisa herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of Mary Ostrowski Friday, January 15, 2010 4:00 PM herbal remedies Re: {Herbal Remedies} Standard Base questions Lisa, Standard base is either 100 proof vodka ( it IS 50% distilled water and 50% grain alcohol) or mix half 190 proof Everclear with half distilled water OR half 200% US Pharmaceutical grade alcohol with half distilled water. Guest guest
Lisa, Are you sure that the vodka you used is 100% vodka ? Not 100 proof ? Guest guest
Lisa, It's perfect as 100 proof vodka is already 50% distilled water and 50% grain alcohol. No need to do anything different to your tinctures. Mary Lisa wrote: Hmmmm…it’s 100 proof.
