My toddler is very picky about what he drinks...he is 18 mths old.  He will only drink sweetened water, like juice/water or Crystal Light. Is it ok to flavor his water with something to get him to drink more water?  like especially something like this:

I would definitely NOT flavor his water with things like Crystal Light. It's full of petro-chemicals and carcinogens. The flavors you linked to look just OK in my opinion, but I don't know what the *all natural flavors* are made up of in the ingredient list. It's absolutely legal to put that on the ingredient list and have it be things like MSG.What I've learned with my 5 kids is that they don't become picky about their drinks if you don't give them a choice. I always fed my babies water or breastmilk. Very rarely would they have anything else.Ingrid"Be one more blind follower of the blind, and you will have the oblivion you desire."Bliss Carman1861-1929, Poet--- On Wed, 12/2/09, Holly V. <peacefullone wrote:Holly V. <peacefullone{Herbal Remedies} I would like your thoughts please....flavoring water for toddlerherbal_remedies Date: Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 6:09 AM

Holly.. I am struggling with my weight and one of the ideas that has been most successful for me ( i used to have a huge problem with sugared drinks).. is to make a homemade concentrate out of whatever fruit I have hanging around (grapes, peaches, strawberries.. etc)... and use a SMALL amount of honey to sweeten it.. then I add just a 1/4 cup of this to a half gallon of water and keep it cold. I find my jug of water disappears faster than the koolaid and soda my daughter keeps her fridge stocked with because my grandsons tend to reach for my bottle rather than all those sugared ones.

It's hard...but if he's stuck on sugared water then start diluting it a

little at a time to get him used to less sugary water. It may take time but

it also may due the trick if he goes into toddler tantrum mode.

You may also try something more natural like juices of fruit and maybe add a

bit of honey (mix it up separately so it's mixed well) then add it to the

water.

Either way, the earlier you break him of the habit the better!

My daughter who's 6 1/2 likes to get the milk through the school lunch

system and it's so gawdawful nasty I won't let her. We drink raw milk at

home and in order for her to be " like " everybody else, on occasion I will

make her strawberry milk by using some strawberries and then addid some

local honey to sweeten it a bit. Much better than the garbage they call

" healthy " at school!

Be creative -- you can do it :)

Please do some research on this. You do not want to ingest Crystal Light under

any circumstances. No one will ever convince me that any amount of aspartame is

safe.

In my opinion kids will get used to whatever they have. If they are thirsty,

they will drink plain old water!

Also, make sure you read the " juice " labels. Most of it is pure garbage.

Sorry if I sound harsh.

I've heard good things about Stevia. I've only tried it once and probably didn't use enough, so I wasn't happy with it. But I was also in my first trimester of pregnancy then and that's the worst time for me to try new things! Could you please explain this further? I find it interesting,

but can't seem to locate any information on how natural flavors

are manufactured. Something tells me that I perhaps don't really

want to know either, but I think that it's important to have

as much expository information as possible. Thank you!

It is my understanding that most, if not all, natural flavoring

is engineered from bacteria. And so the question arises, how can

they call it " natural " then? Well, it is produced from a living

organism, and therefore natural. That " cherry " flavordrop, for

instance, has most likely never, ever been part of a cherry.

Sidebar: Strawberry ice cream may have an old strawberry or two

in it, but the strawberry flavor is definitely from bacterial

poop; again, a " natural " substance. When I look at the

" flavordrop " website all I see are vials of bacterial poop next

to pictures of fruit. Cheers!
