cabbage leaves for swellilngs...maybe strains?

I read in some of Dr. Christopher's writings that cabbage leaves are good. Supposedly a cart driver got hurt by his cart. The doctor said he'd need his leg amputated. But someone told him to cover his leg with cabbage leaves. The next morning he could walk because the swelling was down. Might be worth a try.
