Guest guest
>>>Is there a pathomechanism by which heart fire leads to sore throat? I have heard a few but can't seem to reference them in my home library. <<< Well, first of all, it seems to me that the main heart channel travels along the esophagus and could go near the throat, or could transfer heat from the esophagus to the throat. The heart luo channel connects with the root of the tongue and could transfer heat that way. A roundabout possibility is that heart fire will lead to heat in the blood, which would heat the entire body, and heat would rise to the weakest link, which could be the throat. Another roundabout possibility is that heart fire would transfer heat to the blood, thence to the liver, which stores blood, especially at night. Then this could lead to depressive liver heat, which could counterflow to the spleen/stomach and counterflow up to the throat, or the liver heat could insult the lung and thus the throat. Or heart fire could inhibit kidney water in a heart/kidney disharmony and cause mingmen ministerial fire to implode upwards to the throat. Or severe heart fire could transfer to its upper jiao neighbor the lung either physiologically or through overcontrolling fire to metal. Did I miss anything? Joseph Garner, L.Ac. Guest guest
>>>Is there a pathomechanism by which heart fire leads to sore throat? I have heard a few but can't seem to reference them in my home library. <<< IMO Heart fire does not lead to sore throat. The pathogenesis leading to heart fire, which is usually a chronic pattern, may also predispose one to sore throat susceptibility, but you’d have to go down the tree from the heart (probably to Ki yin xu) and come up a different branch to get to the sore throat. You can find plenty of chronic heart fire types that do not get abnormally frequent sore throats. I believe that the Fire that affects the heart can in some cases be a bit less reflective of temperature than activity, relative to liver fire or a sore throat for example. If a heart fire type gets a sore throat could you only reduce the fire in the heart to relieve the sore throat? Just one person’s opinion. Guest guest
What is good for a sore throat that is just starting?? My ears are hurting somewhat - it usually means a sinus infection but these days you are worried about anything that resembles the flu or a strain of it!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
A few days ago, I started to feel something in my throat and I did not let it come through full throtlle on me. I started pourint total tonic and cayenne tinctures down my throat. Well ok, not pouring. they are a bit hot. I did take total tonic at least 3 times a day. I drank hot herbal tea with 4 drops of cayenne. Its about all I can handle. I am not sore anymore. Its best to catch it early and take the TT, garlic, ginger, and even tumeric. All these would prevent or keep the symptoms minimal of any cold or flu from occuring. Guest guest
My grandson, age 9, had a high fever (104 one day 101 next several days and back to normal over a week) about 6 weeks ago. With the high fever came a sore throat that does not want to go away. He also had spinning when he stood up. I put garlic oil in the ear and that seem to take care of it. It only lasted a day. For the sore throat, I finally had to take him to the doc yesterday and the “rapid strep” came back negative. I asked them to do a strep culture; the results will be back this Friday. They prescribed an anti-biotic, but I want to avoid it if possible, but this has gone on for a long time. In the throat the adenoids are infected, esp., on the left side. There is infection on of the back of the throat and the back of the tongue. Over the last 6 weeks, I have tried: Garlic ACV Colloidal Silver TT/Echinacea Warm honey/cinnamon/lemon tea It will appear to be going away, but as soon as he goes outside, it flares up again. It is now almost as infected as it started 6 weeks ago. Are there any suggestions as to what I else I can do? Thanks so much
Guest guest
That's a heat pattern. Go to the drug store and get some lancets. Locate the following acupuncture points: Lung 11, which is on the edge of the thumb. Large Intestine 1, which is toward the end of the index finger. Lung 10, which is on the thenar eminence, or the "ball" of the thumb, on the palm of the hand. There are sites online to tell you how to locate these points. Anyway, take a lancet and puncture these points, squeeze out 2-3 drops of blood. "Hundred percent effective, immediately," according to one of my professors. Dr. Jiang. My classmate tried just Lung 11 once when she had a sore throat, she said it was gone "in minutes." Sometimes, you will be able to see the blood cooling. It will go from a darker, deeper red to a brighter red. When that happens, you've done enough. You should only have to let out 2-3 drops of blood from each point. You could also try an essential oil with a strong cooling property, like maybe peppermint. Although spearmint might be gentler for a child. Put the oil on these points as well as topically on the throat. - Debra Garrett herbal remedies Thursday, February 25, 2010 9:17 AM RE: {Herbal Remedies} Sore Throat My grandson, age 9, had a high fever (104 one day 101 next several days and back to normal over a week) about 6 weeks ago. Guest guest
I'll see what I can do. TCM has a completely different theory of reality compared to that of Western Medicine. Also, needling can be dangerous in some areas of the body. One thing I have been working on though is using essential oils on various points instead of needling. This is something people can easily do on their own, and it's neither dangerous nor invasive. What I do is I try to match up functions and indication of the oils with the points. For a good intro to TCM theory, get THE WEB THAT HAS NO WEAVER by Kaputchek. Great introductory text. Thanks for the interest! I think there's plenty of basic stuff that people can do in their own homes. There are some good patent formulas too. - Doc herbal remedies Thursday, March 04, 2010 9:33 AM Re: {Herbal Remedies} Sore Throat Dear Mercurius,Thanks for posting this.I'd also appreciate it if you'd be willing to give our list members some on-line, on-list education on how to continue using Acupuncture on certain other conditions that list members come up with. Guest guest
Just one request to help the westerners out ;o))) Please watch the "qi, heat, damp" terms you use in your posts. We have a list policy that all medical or professional terms be defined when using them. Eastern Acupuncture and Ayurvedic terms are very foreign to us and need to be defined as you use them, orrrrrrrrrrrr, best of all would be to explain them in simpler terms to begin with. Pressure points, Needle points, and what they do and handle would be very much appreciated. One of the mottos of Herbal Remedies is, "Keep it Simple" ;o))) Thanks, Doc On 3/4/2010 8:58 AM, Mercurius Trismegistus wrote: I'll see what I can do. Guest guest
Thanks, I think Qi is a pretty common term. As for heat, that's pretty much what it sounds like. Heat can come from the outside, as we see like in sun stroke or it can come from the inside, as we see in headaches, high blood pressure, etc. Damp is much more difficult, as there is really no 1:1 comparison in western theory. You can think of it as edema, I guess. However, "damp heat" can take the form of fat cells, infections, edema, it depends on the pattern. I'll try to explain these terms if I use them. I'll also try to give points and herbs functions and indications from a western standpoint as much as possible. LOL. Some western diagnoses can have multiple different TCM pattern diagnoses, depending on the energetic pattern. - Doc herbal remedies Saturday, March 06, 2010 10:53 AM Re: {Herbal Remedies} Sore Throat Just one request to help the westerners out ;o))) Please watch the "qi, heat, damp" terms you use in your posts.
