My 3 year old grandson has given us scabies- we have all the symptoms- how can

we get rid of this without the chemical poisons the doctors want us to partake

of? What's safe for a 3 year old?

WoW! I really feel for you on this one. When I was in college we had a major

outbreak of scabies, what a pain it was. Loaned my girlfriend some jewelry and

got it on my wrist and thus began the nightmare!

Old timers used Flowers of Sulfer and maybe lard. Scabies aka mites that burrow

under the skin tend to gather and work from areas that bend such as your wrist,

elbows, behind the knees, ankles and will torment you unmercifully. All mites

need to be smothered, but these may burrow deeper than most. The trick is use

the same set of two changes of clothes for 2 weeks, apply ointment or remedy

daily three times. Wash all bed clothes in extra hot water plus the two sets of

clothes. Lastly, you will need to treat your head at least a couple of times

per week too. The idea is: if you wear the same two sets of clothes and apply

ointment religiously, then the ointment will get in the material and stop the

mites from setting up house in your clothes. And they will! Nowadays, on

adults~Peru of Balsam is supposed to work. Some Peru is not like others. It

will need to be distilled not solvent extracted. As anything neat can cause you

to build up a sensitivity to that essential oil, etc., it is best to dilute it

with a good non-staining carrier oil. The best that I know of would be

Fractionated Coconut. Fract. coconut has a molecule missing and stays relativly

liquid unlike other coconut oils and does not stain and has an indefinite shelf

life. Ratio of 20:1, or one teaspoon of carrier oil to 1-2 drops of peru balsam.

Other oils known to use as insect repellents would need to be mixed together and

are: Cedarwood, lemon tea tree, patchouli, and catnip. Lite on the patchouli

as it can overwhelm most folks.

Since regular mites respond to smoothering techniques, in a pinch, you might try

to use clear nail polish with some essential oils inside to see if it would

reach deep enough to smother those bas*#$ds!

The lotion, ointment, creme that Dr's used to prescribe, began with a K has now

been linked to causing cancer!

There is nothing, and I mean nothing as miserable as scabies! Best of luck to

you on ridding yourself of these varmits! Should you have cloth couches,

chairs, etc., those may need to be treated too.

Let me know if I can help. I do have most of the oils and the Frac.coconut

onhand.

The 3yo should be ok with any of the remedies as long as you don't use the

essential oils neat. Six months and younger, NO Way. Normally, these things

happen after a trek or camping trip, or just being outdoors in the woods.

Best of luck,

d
