Guest guest
Alterative herbs are the group of plants which clean the blood and the eliminative tissues and organs (Liver, Kidneys, Skin, etc). The better-known Alteratives are Plantain, Red Clover, Poke Root, Burdock Root, Chaparral, Oregon Grape, Sassafras, Sarsaparilla, Echinacea, Yellow Dock and Garlic. These same herbs have other therapeutic actions as well as being Alterative. Most Alteratives work best with a stimulant such as Cayenne, Ginger, Peppermint, Cloves, Horseradish and Black Pepper, etc. Doc's alterative formulas contain alterative herbs in companion with stimulants OR he will recommend a stimulant formula be taken along with them. Guest guest
Mary, This is what I would like to learn more about; they can be harvested in the wild by anyone who knows what to look for and how to use them. What references do you recommend to identify them? I know both plantain plants, red clover, poke root, sassafras, dandelion and garlic and have access to gather them. I do research on the web about plants and I am still not sure of the identities of the burdock and thistles in my area because there are several with similarities and some are dangerous if used. I would appreciate any links for further research. Thank you, Susan in Ga herbal remedies , " maryostrowski " <mary wrote: > > Alterative herbs are the group of plants which clean the blood and the eliminative tissues and organs (Liver, Kidneys, Skin, etc). > > Mary >
Guest guest
Susan, I do apologize for not answering in a timely manner. I am hoping there are some wildcrafters on our list who can suggest some books. My suggestion is do some research on the Internet regarding such books and then go to a local book store such as Barnes and Noble or Borders.and order them They can order the book for you to see before you purchase it. I would also talk to old folks in your area and try to locate an old herbalist/ wildcrafter. I am searching myself for an all around good book on this .When I find the right thing , I will post about it. Any other ideas folks ? Guest guest
The problem with most books and wildcrafting ...it that...most do not give a good enough ID to protect yourself from harvesting something by mistake. Be very careful with that. > Susan, > I do apologize for not answering in a timely manner. Guest guest
I have noticed this myself. It is looking like for those tough ones one would have to go out in the field with a wildcrafter .
