mandatory flu shot

It's a terrifying thought that parents could sent their children to school and the children come home having had a flu shot without parental consent or knowledge. I remember having to give written permission for my children to have sex education classes. Now the school district can poison and possibly kill our children without our knowledge? To "assume" a parent is aware is ridiculous. This should be very interesting and needs to be followed. If one child gets sick and/or dies from a flu vaccine that was not administered with parental permission would hopefully be cause for a HUGE lawsuit. It is not the responsibility of educators to impose medical procedures on their students. UGH!!!!!!!!

God Bless

I volunteer at my son's school (not able to homeschool or i would) - on friday mornings. this past friday morning they were talking about the flu shot. i asked if they were calling it mandatory or how it was going to be handled. they said it was and it wasnt mandatory. they said basically on the day they are giving it, parents have to already know about it and send writing that they don't want their child to have it. i asked how the parents would know, she said, well, that's why i said yes and know about it being mandatory. i said well, my son is NOT going to have it, how do i stop it. she sent me to the nurse (thankfully, she's a friend of mine) and i said my son is not having any shots from this school. they know my stand on medications and shots and they agreed he would not have it. i left a note for her in the nurse's office. i'm also sending notes to all of his teachers and i informed him that if they try to give him any shots, he is to refuse because they still aren't sure of the date (i'm guessing because they aren't sure when the vaccine will be here.) kids are not allowed to have phones at school, but i do allow my son to carry his in his backpack (he knows if he gets caught with it, they'll take it away and i'll have to come get it) - but i told him if they try to give him a shot despite my refusing it and they won't let him go to the office to call me, then and only then does he have my permission to use his phone at school. i'm going to be going up there as much as i can in order to be sure i know the day they're giving it. once they know the date, they're *supposed* to let me know and i said i'll keep him home that day if i have to -- i am very fortunate that the staff seems supportive of me and my decision to not inject my child, but they have also had to listen to the stories i've told them about severe reactions to medications i've taken in the past and how my son early in life started having similar reactions and since we stopped using "prescriptions" or OTC medications, my son has not been ill, and i've only been ill once and it was a light case of bronchitis that was caused by allergies i didnt have a grip on at the time. anyway, that's been my recent experience, i just hope i can figure out the day before they spring it on us. i know it's coming and they have my written notes that i am not allowing my son to have it.bobbie smith
