Looking to get my ND- But have Question on Practicing

Hi All,

I am wanting to obtain my ND and open up a practice. After contacting the Board

of Medicine in VA- they advised me that I could not do that without a license.

To be licensed the school would have to be approved by the Dept of Education. I

am not sure on how some people are getting by and not being licensed?? Am I

missing something somewhere? Any help would be really appreciated:)

The information the Board of Medicine gave you is inaccurate. Virginia is trying to pass a bill that will require licensure, but this has not been done yet. I spoke with Janet with the Certified Natural Health Professionals of Virginia, and she verified this information. She said the Board of Medicine and some others are trying to get licensure for all alternative health practioners (herbalists, nutritionists, NDs, etc.) If you would like more information, you can email her at janet. Kellum,

Thank you for the information! I did get an email back from the board that clarified even further saying I could practice but not to diagnose etc. which I already knew. If VA is trying to get the bill passed would that mean after I finish the program I would then have to turn around and do it all again at an accredited school in order to work? Thanks for the additional email to ask questions also:)
