I know this is an older email, but was cleaning out mine and decided to answer this~

If parents weren't wimps and actually believed that they are the parents of their children and have final authority and not the State, then parents would withdraw their children enmasse for homeschooling them and tell the schools to go to H*% & and not worry about these vaccinations. Trust me, the schools could not operate without kids as they would lose their federal funds, which are based on "average daily attendance" (why we have such draconian attendance laws), and the parents would hold clout in the decisions made for their kids. But, this will never happen because parents have given up and they just hand their kids over to the schools as if they belong to the State.

The schools already know how to twist the arms of parents in order to get what they want. When they want to pass a levy and it keeps failing, then the schools charge kids to play sports, cut sports programs, cut extra-curricular programs, and pretty much make life miserable. But do we see parents doing the same thing by twisting the financial arm of the schools? No! they are too wimpy and spoiled. These parents might actually have to be responsible for their own kids for a few weeks. But if parents banded together and did yank their kids enmasse, do you know we could take our schools back as we would then have the clout? The schools would not be able to function without our kids. They would be at our mercy.

I do homeschool, but I am in the minority of the 2% of parents who do so. Imagine if 50%-75% or more of parents said NO! Our kids will NOT be vaccinated or we will pull our kids!!!! Then not only make this threat, but act upon it! The schools would grovel and give in to parental demands in order to get the Gravy Train (warm bodies called kids) back enrolled in schools so they could continue to get all the local, state, and federal funds that each child brings with their enrollment.

Sorry if I sound cynical, but this is just how the whole operation of public school works. That is why so many kids are put on "in school suspensions" so that the schools don't lose the funds from the feds.

It is time parents (We, the People) took back their kids, took back their schools, and took back this country. The apathy is appalling. All it takes is for parents across the nation to organize a parent's group in each school (and no, not the PTA or PTO, which is just a money-making group for the schools), in order to make sure that our kids are truly educated, are not subjected to angerous immunizations, and that our social fabric is not further eroded. Parents have allowed the schools to erode to nothing less than social engineering places of socialism, moral relativism, and humanistic ideology.

I used to have kids in public school and I finally said "Enough is enough!" and pulled them all out. I can tell you all kinds of horror stories of apathetic and ignorant parents who refused to know what was going on. School boards who treat parents with disrespect. And teachers who think they have final say over parents. I was not one of those parents who thought my kids never did wrong. No, I was one of those parents who are informed and know the things that are going on and refuse to hand my kids over on the altar of school policy. I did not going to wring my hands and give up. I became proactive, and when I saw this was useless (one person will not make change!) I did the next best thing and brought my kids home where they belonged. It was the best choice I could have made, and I am glad I did it. But I know it is not for everyone.

But if anyone allows their child(ren) to be injected with foriegn materials of unknown hazard because they are too stupid, lazy, or ineffective to yank their kids, then the war is lost and the State has all control of our kids and we might as well rip up our constitution. Our kids are our future. They belong to us, not the State.Sorry. I will get off of my soapbox now. But as you can tell, this is a real thorn in my side.

Everything you say is true, Lori. And thank you for saying it.I, too, am a home school mom and I don't regret it either. My kids are happier and healthier because of it and they have a better relationship with us and better self worth.Kathy

I volunteer at my son's school (not able to homeschool or i would) - on friday mornings. this past friday morning they were talking about the flu shot. i asked if they were calling it mandatory or how it was going to be handled. they said it was and it wasnt mandatory. they said basically on the day they are giving it, parents have to already know about it and send writing that they don't want their child to have it. i asked how the parents would know, she said, well, that's why i said yes and know about it being mandatory. i said well, my son is NOT going to have it, how do i stop it. she sent me to the nurse (thankfully, she's a friend of mine) and i said my son is not having any shots from this school. they know my stand on medications and shots and they agreed he would not have it. i left a note for her

in the nurse's office. i'm also sending notes to all of his teachers and i informed him that if they try to give him any shots, he is to refuse because they still aren't sure of the date (i'm guessing because they aren't sure when the vaccine will be here.) kids are not allowed to have phones at school, but i do allow my son to carry his in his backpack (he knows if he gets caught with it, they'll take it away and i'll have to come get it) - but i told him if they try to give him a shot despite my refusing it and they won't let him go to the office to call me, then and only then does he have my permission to use his phone at school. i'm going to be going up there as much as i can in order to be sure i know the day they're giving it. once they know the date, they're *supposed* to let me know and i said i'll keep him home that day if i have to -- i am very fortunate that the staff seems supportive of me and my decision to not inject my child, but they

have also had to listen to the stories i've told them about severe reactions to medications i've taken in the past and how my son early in life started having similar reactions and since we stopped using "prescriptions" or OTC medications, my son has not been ill, and i've only been ill once and it was a light case of bronchitis that was caused by allergies i didnt have a grip on at the time. anyway, that's been my recent experience, i just hope i can figure out the day before they spring it on us. i know it's coming and they have my written notes that i am not allowing my son to have it.bobbie smith Mary Ostrowski <maryherbal remedies Sent: Sun, October 4, 2009 11:07:57 PMRe: {Herbal Remedies} mandatory flu shot

they would lose their federal funds, which are based on "average daily

attendance" (why we have such draconian attendance laws), and the

parents would hold clout in the decisions made for their kids. But,

this will never happen because parents have given up and they just hand

their kids over to the schools as if they belong to the State.

The schools already know how to twist the arms of parents in order to

get what they want. When they want to pass a levy and it keeps failing,

then the schools charge kids to play sports, cut sports programs, cut

extra-curricular programs, and pretty much make life miserable. But do

we see parents doing the same thing by twisting the financial arm of

the schools? No! they are too wimpy and spoiled. These parents might

actually have to be responsible for their own kids for a few weeks. But

if parents banded together and did yank their kids enmasse, do you know

we could take our schools back as we would then have the clout? The

schools would not be able to function without our kids. They would be

at our mercy.

I do homeschool, but I am in the minority of the 2% of parents who do

so. Imagine if 50%-75% or more of parents said NO! Our kids will NOT be

vaccinated or we will pull our kids!!!! Then not only make this threat,

but act upon it! The schools would grovel and give in to parental

demands in order to get the Gravy Train (warm bodies called kids) back

enrolled in schools so they could continue to get all the local, state,

and federal funds that each child brings with their enrollment.

Sorry if I sound cynical, but this is just how the whole operation of

public school works. That is why so many kids are put on "in school

suspensions" so that the schools don't lose the funds from the feds.

It is time parents (We, the People) took back their kids, took back

their schools, and took back this country. The apathy is appalling. All

it takes is for parents across the nation to organize a parent's group

in each school (and no, not the PTA or PTO, which is just a

money-making group for the schools), in order to make sure that our

kids are truly educated, are not subjected to angerous immunizations,

and that our social fabric is not further eroded. Parents have allowed

the schools to erode to nothing less than social engineering places of

socialism, moral relativism, and humanistic ideology.

I used to have kids in public school and I finally said "Enough is

enough!" and pulled them all out. I can tell you all kinds of horror

stories of apathetic and ignorant parents who refused to know what was

going on. School boards who treat parents with disrespect. And teachers

who think they have final say over parents. I was not one of those

parents who thought my kids never did wrong. No, I was one of those

parents who are informed and know the things that are going on and

refuse to hand my kids over on the altar of school policy. I did not

going to wring my hands and give up. I became proactive, and when I saw

this was useless (one person will not make change!) I did the next best

thing and brought my kids home where they belonged. It was the best

choice I could have made, and I am glad I did it. But I know it is not

for everyone.

But if anyone allows their child(ren) to be injected with foriegn

materials of unknown hazard because they are too stupid, lazy, or

ineffective to yank their kids, then the war is lost and the State has

all control of our kids and we might as well rip up our constitution.

Our kids are our future. They belong to us, not the State.

Sorry. I will get off of my soapbox now. But as you can tell, this is a

real thorn in my side.

Good for you, Bobby. You are lucky since you are so involved in your child's school. Many parents aren't able to be, or don't care to be. I volunteer at my son's school (not able to homeschool or i would) - on friday mornings. this past friday morning they were talking about the flu shot. i asked if they were calling it mandatory or how it was going to be handled. they said it was and it wasnt mandatory. they said basically on the day they are giving it, parents have to already know about it and send writing that they don't want their child to have it. i asked how the parents would know, she said, well, that's why i said yes and know about it being mandatory. i said well, my son is NOT going to have it, how do i stop it. she sent me to the nurse (thankfully, she's a friend of mine) and i said my son is not having any shots from this school. they know my stand on medications and shots and they agreed he would not have it. i left a note for her in the nurse's office. i'm also sending notes to all of his teachers and i informed him that if they try to give him any shots, he is to refuse because they still aren't sure of the date (i'm guessing because they aren't sure when the vaccine will be here.) kids are not allowed to have phones at school, but i do allow my son to carry his in his backpack (he knows if he gets caught with it, they'll take it away and i'll have to come get it) - but i told him if they try to give him a shot despite my refusing it and they won't let him go to the office to call me, then and only then does he have my permission to use his phone at school. i'm going to be going up there as much as i can in order to be sure i know the day they're giving it. once they know the date, they're *supposed* to let me know and i said i'll keep him home that day if i have to -- i am very fortunate that the staff seems supportive of me and my decision to not inject my child, but they have also had to listen to the stories i've told them about severe reactions to medications i've taken in the past and how my son early in life started having similar reactions and since we stopped using "prescriptions" or OTC medications, my son has not been ill, and i've only been ill once and it was a light case of bronchitis that was caused by allergies i didnt have a grip on at the time. anyway, that's been my recent experience, i just hope i can figure out the day before they spring it on us. i know it's coming and they have my written notes that i am not allowing my son to have it.bobbie smith

Maybe, as I am a grandma, too! :)

My oldest will be 35 in March, and my youngest will be 18 in April (2010). I've been doing this "mommy" thing for a long time!

How did you get into homeschooling back in the *older* days? I'd love to hear...were you homeschooling in 60's or 70's, or before?

I wanted to start homeschooling in 1984/85, but hubby wouldn't hear of it. I finally wore him down in 1993 and we've been at it ever since. The youngest, this is her last year. I did some homeschooling of my own (self) in the 70's (underground).~ Lori"I feel ashamed that so many of us cannot imagine a better way to do things than locking children up all day in cells instead of letting them grow up knowing their families, mingling with the world, assuming real obligations, striving to be independent and self-reliant and free." - John Taylor Gatto

I'm back in college full-time so my schedule is a bit more flexible than most working parents. I would home school, but I'm a single mom and the family's only income (work five part-time jobs around my school and my son's school) and I just can't figure out a way to make it happen. Sooooooooo my best alternative is to stick my nose in the school as much as i possibly can and make sure those things they "forget" to send notes home to let us know what's going on (like they are doing hearing and vision testing today, wouldnt have known that if the nurse hadn't asked if i could volunteer to come help today). I think i've made some allies at the school, so that's very positive as well. I do what I can to stay involved, but they don't try to make it easy for parents.

I started home schooling in the 80's and it was because my daughter who was in the 1st grade at the time came home from school and told me her teacher was yelling at her for being late to school. Well gee any normal person would have a chat with the parents at that age and maybe find out how they could help......... but noooooooooo this teacher was yelling at a first grader for being late. the next day I brought her in to school told the teacher if you want to yell at sombody for being late try yelling at me as at her age its my fault not hers. I then told my daughter get your stuff. My little girl smiled and felt good because that teacher had really been mean to her. I then went a head and took my oldest son out. There was a small group of people here in

oregon that were doing the same thing we networked and shared information. during the late 70's there was a man here in oregon that took his kids out of school he had to fight the school system they had him arrested at one point he paved the way for us here in oregon wanting to teach our kids at home. I really enjoyed teaching my kids at home,Oh and that teacher retired her self the next school year. That was a blessing for all. Lori Smith <homeschoolmom42Bryan Schillington
