mercury filling?

I have a mercury filling my dentist wants to replace with a white filling. I don't think it bothers me at all but I'm sure it's just because I've had it for about 14 years. I don't ever feel any kind of pain on that side, so I'm just wondering if I should be in a hurry to get this done? I had some work done yesterday and I just didn't want both sides of my mouth numbed up and hurting. I only have 1 mercury filling but I do have a metal brace around a crown which he said he could replace with porcelain but that's just too much money right now and I don't want to traumatize my mouth with all this work.

 

Would there be any noticeable difference if I get the silver filling out?

When my friend's mom was about 80, she started developing Alzheimer's. My friend took her to Mexico to have all the metal fillings removed and replaced by porcelain and the Alzheimer's completely disappeared.

I'm not a dentist, but I would think that it would depend on the size of the filling if it were me.

I have a mouth full of metal as I had a dentist who filled piles of my teeth when I was a kid. I believe I have 14 amalgam fillings, all put in by the time I was 14 years old. I was almost 15 (3 weeks away) and was told I had 5 more cavities that needed to be filled NOW! I made an appointment for 2 weeks later to have these taken care of. In the meantime, I told my parents I was pregnant. When I went back for my appintment I told them no x-rays. so they said they'd wait until I had my baby, but then I HAD to come back in as I didn't want to lose my teeth!

I was dead broke after I had my baby. I had gotten married to the father and we just had little money. I worried to death about my teeth rotting out. Then almost 2 years later I had an accident on my bike and I chipped off half of both my front teeth. I went to the dentist where my sister-in-law went and I had porcelain repairs done to my front teeth to make them look like new. The price was reasonable, though still expensive for us. While in there, I asked the dentist to check my teeth to see how bad the cavities had become and to see about scheduling to get them fixed. The dentist looked over my teeth and looked at me very oddly and told me I didn't have any cavities.

I was flabbergasted, to say the least! Here I had been worried to death about those 5 cavities that didn't exist! I had been told in October of 1974 that I had 5 cavities that I needed to get taken care of ASAP, and here it is 2009 and I have NEVER had a cavity in all that time!!!! This tells me that the dentist whom my dad sent me to was getting rich off of my dad while ruining mine and my sister's teeth. My sister ended up with 19 fillings! I have 14. And mine fill the entire tooth area on inside so that I am afraid to have them removed as I am afraid it will ruin my teeth as there is no room for them to dig out without going further onto the sides of my teeth.

I have read many times about the dangers of mercury fillings and I would love to have mine out, but my fear is losing perfectly good teeth in the process, and so I keep the fillings. I figure that maybe one day one of the fillings may fall out (some are 40 years old!) and I will have them replaced with composite (the white stuff), but in the meantime I am keeping my amalgams as I want to keep my teeth! If I had small ones that did not fill the entire tooth area then I would consider having a few done every year, but as it is, it is not even a consideration.

I do know that when I took my daughter in a couple of months back and she needed a filling that we asked for composite and the dental assistant was rather rude about it as she said the amalgam controversy was all blown out of proportion. I know she is wrong. The composite cost $10.00 more, which is a small cost to have some peace of mind. I wish I was able to have mine replaced.

Once upon a time I had a mouthful of mercury fillings  and was also 

plaqued  by  some  vaguary  medical problems    like  unusual fatigue

,  mental fuzziness, depression, etc.    It wasn't until  all those

fillings  finally  fell out(over time)   that I began to feel

healthy.    During this time  the  news  about  mercury began to be

widely circulated  but the dentists  were not willing to admit it

yet.   My own experience  told me those warnings were spot on.    Tis

your choice,   how healthy do you want to be?

What an awful experience-  so sorry that happened to you.   I also had

a lot of fillings  but they were legitimate  and yes  it took an awful

long time for them to come out   and  not all at once.   It wasn't 

until  they were almost all gone  that I noticed a dramatic 

improvement in my health   and  cheered  when the last two were

gone.     Not been sick since.

 

Some dentists  are now admitting there is a problem  and actually 

assisting  in  getting rid of them,  my daughter  works  for 3 

dentists,      she was totally  unaware that amalgam had mercury  in

it  until I told her,  and when she checked with her bosses,  they

said  yes  it was there  but not a problem.   !!!!!    Unbelieveable.

As long as they don't expand and crack your teeth. I have that problem

with one of mine with amalgam in it now. It has expanded and cracked

my tooth.

When your mercury fillings fall out, don't you have to have a dentist put something in them to replace the mercury? Recently, one of my teeth chipped apart and the mercury filling was exposed. The dentist here refused to let me have an amalgam put in, and went ahead and refit it all with mercury. If this happens again in the future, can I just let the mercury fall out? Does anybody know a good dentist in Atlanta, Georgia to remove all my mercury fillings??

I'm feeling so sick lately too and attribute that to the mercury in my many fillings.

Metal caps are stainless steel, not a mercury based metal.

Actualy its qite common. Its the only way insurance will pay to have tem removed

also.

I am going through the hell of learning all this first hand. I am conviced it is

what is at the root of my health issues.

One of my back teeth broke and when they were removing hte silver filling the

dentist said it was not nessacary to use the plastic " raincoat " and ended up

shooting a peace of hte filling down my throat. THEN she decided it might be a

good idea.

It was a few days after this that my health issues started. For one my glands

are not producing hormones. And that has led to a host of other issues.

Anyway, later this month I have a Dentist appointment to have all 4 remaining

fillings removed and replaced with porcelain. One crown possibly two will be

needed because the Dentist that worked on them " filling cavities " carved out

nearly my entire tooth to put in these fillings. I have only had one cavity

since then and that was 22 years ago.

I suspect HIGHLY that like the other post, the Dentist was " making money " . My

mother had great insurance. Only thing that kept him from doing more of my teeth

was the fact that I would not go back.

Anyway, out of the 5 silver filled teeth 3 are cracked due to expansion of the

silver. The other two are leaking. The dentist showed me the pictures and you

can see the way the tooth has gone gray all around the filling. (yes, its a

different Dentist than the idiot that refused to use the protector).

I say get the filings out. But maybe get a second opinion and chose the dentist

that will work best with you. It took me over three months constantly searching

to find one that respected my wishes.

I have been looking all over AL for a doctor that will do this and haven't found 1! I can NOT tell you how irritating it is living in this state. My father retired here, and I married a man that only recently learned if you spend everything than you end up with nothing. *rolling eyes* It only took 10 out of 11 years of marriage, but at least he got it. lol In the meantime I'm bustin butt trying to feed me, the unborn I carry, and two out of our other 3 an organic almost meat free diet. I use natural remedies as when we didn't have insurance I ran face first into how much a doctor truly cares about you as a person. (I bled for 4 months, heavy, and was told to come back when I had 170+ for the first payment of an ultrasound AND I stopped bleeding.....I bled for

another 2 months and barely had the energy to take care of myself let alone my kids.) I am scared I may have to have a hysterectomy (sp?) after this one. I really don't want to, but my periods are so wacked. Anyway, back to the fillings, I ended up swallowing one a few years ago now and have quite a few more from my childhood when I busted all my teeth and jaw in a bike accident. I have tried a few of Doc's remedies over the years, but am still so addicted to sugar in the form of soda's mostly that I am afraid to try the detox again. I am better than I was, eating more organic foods, less meat more veg. My kids don't even like white bread unless it's Italian or French, and we only have that maybe, maybe once a month. I so badly want all this metal OUT of my mouth. I suspect that while it may not be the leading cause it certainly is part of the problem with my depression issues at the very least. It

scared the crap out of me when I found out about mercury being in them. I blew a fuse at my mother when she tried to tell me it was safe. I just looked at her and said "All through my childhood you wouldn't let me use a regular therometer because you were afraid it would break and I'd be exposed to the mercury, and you tell me not to worry that it's been in my MOUTH since I was 9! Now, who's nuts?!" She kinda glared at me, as she is a registered nurse and resorted to "You're being irrational again." which shut down the conversation. LOL I love my mother and when I HAVE to deal with medico's I want THAT woman RIGHT there! lol (She has a rep. at the hospital she works at for being no nonsence and won't take crap from the doctors either.) That said though I don't want this stuff in my mouth and just learning that it is illegal for a woman in AL to have a midwife at home just ticks me off to the Nth degree. I can't

even get trained as an herbalist from the one school based out of here. I called and when I asked why they could send course material all over the country but they couldn't send it to me I got silence. I soooo want to move! Just waiting now to pay off this stupid trailor and for son #1 to graduate next school year and we are gone. What is sad is I tend to be old fashioned, conservative, and rather boring to most of the people that know me and yet I don't have a choice in where or how I give birth, if I can get this metal out of my mouth, and be trained in the career of my choosing without having to either 1) go to a TN clinic that has a midwife 2) go out of state for a dentist that will or 3) find a different course of distance study (just don't know where to start on that one as their are so many!)

Actualy its qite common. Its the only way insurance will pay to have tem removed also. I am going through the hell of learning all this first hand. I am conviced it is what is at the root of my health issues. One of my back teeth broke and when they were removing hte silver filling the dentist said it was not nessacary to use the plastic "raincoat" and ended up shooting a peace of hte filling down my throat. THEN she decided it might be a good idea. It was a few days after this that my health issues started. For one my glands are not producing hormones. And that has led to a host of other issues.Anyway, later this month I have a Dentist appointment to have all 4 remaining fillings removed and replaced with porcelain. One crown possibly two will be needed because the Dentist that worked on them "filling cavities" carved out nearly my entire tooth to put in these fillings. I have only had one cavity since then and that was 22 years ago.

I suspect HIGHLY that like the other post, the Dentist was "making money". My mother had great insurance. Only thing that kept him from doing more of my teeth was the fact that I would not go back. Anyway, out of the 5 silver filled teeth 3 are cracked due to expansion of the silver. The other two are leaking. The dentist showed me the pictures and you can see the way the tooth has gone gray all around the filling. (yes, its a different Dentist than the idiot that refused to use the protector). I say get the filings out. But maybe get a second opinion and chose the dentist that will work best with you. The metal fillings that are used are amalgam fillings, they are not called

Mercury fillings. Amalgam fillings contain approximately 50% mercury, 30%

copper, 14% each of tin and silver, and 1% zinc. All five metals in amalgam

fillings are toxic. The reason the amalgam fillings break or crack your tooth

structure, is that they are metal. Metal contracts with heat and cold and this

makes the filling act like a wedge, which then can break your tooth.

The white fillings are called composites/Bondings which are resins.

They usually cost more pre surface and some say do not last as long as amalgams.

I do know it is not a good idea to go in and take all your amalgams out at one

time. If you do find a dentist that will do that, Make sure he has the prpoer

equiqpment to do so. As the mercury vapor is released from dental amalgam

fillings .

What I am doing is taking them out little by little and replacing them with

composite material. I have found no difference expect, I had a deep filling and

it was really senstive afterwards for a week or so, the other ones no problem.

 

In some states like CT, they have outlawed the use of amalgam fillings and only

use composites.

If you would like to know what kind of metals are used in Crowns/Caps. You can

ask your dentist, if he does not know a quick call to the lab will get you and

answer. They also use gold for crowns/cap.

I think you should have the mercury filling removed. It didn't affect me for years until I was 27. I couldn't understand why all of a sudden, I got a red face, acne all around my chin, dark circles around my eyes and feeling tired all the time. I was eating organic food all teh time and I just couldnt understand. It even caused depression and confusion on top for no apparent reason.

 

I had a kinesiology session done - and it was based on Mercury poisoning. No amount of organic food could help unless Mercury poisoning was removed from my body entirely. This has taken a few years. I still sometimes have redness but its certainly not as bad since all of them were removed and replaced by white fillings.

I only have 1 mercury filling but I do have a metal brace around a crown which he said he could replace with porcelain but that's just too much money right now and I don't want to traumatize my mouth with all this work. Would there be any noticeable difference if I get the silver filling out?
