Guest guest
My understanding of probiotic supplemnts such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum in simple terms were that they merely out-compete other bacteria in the parts of the intestinal tract that whatever particular species you are taking likes to inhabit (i.e. acidophilus likes the upper small intestine, while bifidum and longum colonize more in the lower s.i. to large intestine). The part that isn't exactly clear is how they do it. Do they colonize on TOP of other bacteria, stealing nutrtition and essentially starving them? do they look for open spots in the mucosal lining and proliferate from there? I don't know but certainly in that manner they could "clear damp heat". Personally, I think of their use as more passively protective than really actively "draining damp/clearing heat." it seems like there are better (or should I say, faster) results with probiotic supplements if you are taking antibiotics (take them with and continue after finishing the antibiotics) or receive a colonic and follow up with probiotic supplementation. I'd just like to note an effect from personal experimentation, that if I take too much, that is, like 4+ capsules, it will make me fart up a storm. -Tom ********************************************************** Sun, 05 Aug 2001 19:58:19 -0000 Re: candida , Cara Frank wrote: > > Acidophilus nourishes the yin of the intestines, by reestablishing > intestinal biosis- repairing the mucosal lining. If the acidophilus cultures actually inhibit or destroy the yeast, which are often manifest in a dampheat environment of the intestines, then perhaps the acidophilus functions more as a medicinal to clear dampheat from the intestines. . . I also do not think of acidophilus as really affecting the mucosa, per se. . . Acidophilus actually seems more dynamic in nature rather than substantial,in other words,it exerts an action rather than building a tissue. ********************************************************************* PCOM Webmail
Guest guest
Hi, I have been hearing a lot about probiotics lately. I know that Doc's first recommendation is Total Nutrition. I hear claims that probitics can help everything from acid reflux to heartburn and other digestion issues. Does it make that much a difference in one health if they take probiotics or not. Guest guest
Take 'em! I've heard Doc say there are ways to make 'em so that you don't have to buy them. But I am lazy and I I do buy them. Guest guest
I thought all probiotis lost their benefits if not refrigerated. > I really believe in Dr Ohhira's probiotis ,It's got it's own > prebiotics included and it comes in a capsule in blister packs > needing no refrigeration , it is a bit pricey but worth it .
