Guest guest
I was talking on another about the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, and that it helps to balance the alkalinity in the body. Someone replied to my post saying that the reason it does that is because it takes the calcium from our bones. Is this true? I know that ACV can help with bone spurs, etc. so if one takes ACV as a supplement, should a calcium supplement be taken also? The list this discussion started on was a kombucha list, so people were also concerned about taking ACV as WELL as drinking kombucha, thinking it put the bones that much more at risk... ??? Thanks for any insights!! Christine
Guest guest
Hi Christine, A wealth of information on ACV can be found at Earthclinic.com I have never heard that calcium is taken from your bones using ACV. I am no chemist or scientist, but my assumption is that acidic blood takes calcium from your bones, not alkaline blood. Plus, if you have a build up of calcium on any bone or area of arthritis, and AVC does help to relieve the issue, it would strike me that the build up of calcium is not exactly the same as the calcium used by your bones. The reason for the bone spurs would likely be that your body cannot use the calcium correctly due to the mineral having a deficiency of necessary synergistic minerals or enzymes needed to make it work properly, then the calcium does not get used as it should and creates deposits. I would then assume that the deposits can be broken down and pass through the system for removal by the ACV. I also assume that AVC does not harm your bones because because it doesn't affect properly assimilated calcium. Over the years, I have read numerous times that calcium requires magnesim and potassium to be utilized by the body. So a lack of either can cause calcium to make deposits. I will say that when taking AVC, one should rinse their mouth thoroughly, because the acid can break down tooth enamel in the mouth, but remember, that is before the AVC hits the stomach acid and reacts differently than in the body. So, that is my thought as a lowly layperson. Guest guest
I actually was told that taking acv and baking soda strips your body of vit. C but I take acv all the time! Esp during that time of the month and since cramps are caused partly because of lack of calcium I wouldn't think there is stealing of calcium but I'm not possitve. sprawlingoaksfarm <SprawlingOaksFarm herbal remedies Thu, 28 May 2009 9:49 am {Herbal Remedies} Apple Cider Vinegar I was talking on another about the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, and that it helps to balance the alkalinity in the body. Guest guest
Aloha Christine, I have not found any evidence of this. What I have found is that, if you add honey to it, it works better. Take 2T. a day. Apple cider vinegar is full of calcium, magnesium, silicone, and other essential vitamins and minerals that our body needs to stay young and healthy. For more information about ACV, check out http://www.pureinsideout.com/apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.html. This is a very informative site. Another use for ACV is to get rid of warts. Use a cotton swab or wash cloth and soak it in ACV. Place ACV on your warts. Do this once a day and within the week you will no longer have those worry warts. I hope that this helps. Guest guest
I've been taking baking soda for a while. Does it really strip the body of vitamins? If so....I'll stop. It does alkalize the body but maybe APV is a better choice?
