I don't have a copy of the Practical Dictionary

to hand at the moment, and I don't recall what

the English equivalents are for these terms.

I know that many years ago I always heard these

terms rendered into English as " righteous qi "

and " evil qi " . I'll input the characters here,

but in the past this has seldom proved effective,

as different browser settings and software seems

to chew them up and spit them out. That was

why we set up the forum at the Paradigm site.

But enough of my kvetching!

Does that let you know what I'm talking about?

Righteous-Qi is the sum of all of the patient’s Qis, Blood, Essence, Yin/ Yang, and Organ functions. It is the body’s ability to fight disease and maintain normal function. When Righteous is strong the body can resist pathogenic factors, mount a battle and develop Heat (fever) to defend itself against invasion and stress. When Righteous is weak pathogenic factors are not resisted and can infect the body and/or hide internally. Often symptoms are mild and patient is weak. Another possibility is that excess evil-qi can accumulate interiorly (internal factors) because of deficiency. Righteous can also be damaged by interior or exterior evil-qi, in any form. One then need to carefully look and assess via 4 exams (and possibly like I do using also biomedical and osteopathic principles) to decide if so called deficiency symptoms and signs are truly so and have truly affected righteous or only locally so because of what I would call blockage or restriction.

I my practice the evaluation of righteous is important in the basic division of a patient as def or excess. It is extremely important as it allows me to look and the patient's symptoms and signs and from a more basic categorization.

I will speak only from orthopedic perspective. Many patients experience pain and manifest changes in the somatic bodies. The symptoms and signs often look as a mixture of excess and deficiency. Most the excesses can be interpreted as evil-qi (exterior or interior); however, when treating a patient it is the understanding of the condition of the so called righteous that allows me to decide if for example an excess is secondary to a true def or not. A patient that has a secondary excess does much better with attention of weakness. This attention is important with acupuncture, herbs, manual therapy or rehab. They will often do poorly with approaches that emphasize stretching, sedation of local excesses, and with herbal formulas that emphasize sedation, or even a balanced approach. Their root always needs to be treated with the greatest emphasis. Strengthening then results in the elimination of excesses (which in orthopedics are often have to do with adaptations, compensation, and eventually pathogenesis).

Practically, one often needs to decide if a patient's areas of instability are addressed first or so called areas of restriction or excess are addressed or both. The condition of the patient's general condition then, to me, becomes extremely important. If the root is weak treating " excesses, trigger points," or whatever approach one takes in treating the body's Compensation Mechanisms (that may look like def or excess) would fail in the big picture. Only symptomatic relief can be expected.

However, a patient in which symptoms and signs may be understood as def, but in which the general condition is strong (righteous), it is the excesses (restrictions) that need to be addressed. The def symptoms then resolve on their own. It is often a mistake to " tonify" such a patient.

This discussion can go on and on and entire book can be written so I will stop here

Hi,

How long it takes for a lotion to go 'rancid' depends on the oils used

and anti-oxidants used (i.e.. vitamin E). A lotion made with a short

shelf life oil such as sunflower, and no anti-oxidant added, will go

rancid far faster than a lotion made with a long shelf life oil such

as coconut, and especially if an anti-oxidant such as vitamin E has

been added to the mix. A lotion whose oil phase has gone rancid will

smell, well, like rancid oil.

" Going bad " on the other hand can be a whole other issue unrelated to

rancidity. Mold, bacteria and fungus can begin growing in an

improperly preserved lotion in a matter of days (like molding food).

??? You can tell if an oil is rancid by the smell.? Familiarize yourself with

the different scents of your oils but you can usually tell just by smell.? I

have not had any of my oils " grow " anything but I did have?all of my mango that

I got from one suppler turned rancid, it is a distinct difference.?

?? There may be shelf lives on some of your oils but I have not found any listed

on the ones that I have bought.? There are some pretty knowledgeable people on

this list that can tell you that, say, olive oil has a shelf life of ===

mos/yrs.? But the most important thing that can vary your shelf life, IMHO, is

temp.? I keep mine pretty constant in the house.? If you live in a climate like

Tx where I live now, then the summers can get pretty hot & this is not a kind

environment for basically any supplies.? Again, imho.? There are many that store

their supplies outside with no problems noted.??? Hope that this helped rather

than confuse

My Daughter had a baby girl at Kennesaw Hospital on this end of January. When she

went in, she was overdue for about a week and she was inducedto labor. Before the

process of cause they asked her some questions in orderto fill up the

paperwork. One of the questions was about the vaccination andshe said clear that

she doesn't want her baby to be vaccinated.Oh, well asshe got home she looked in

her Hospital papers and she discovered that theyvaccinated the baby anyway. She

is wondering what is the point of questioningher if she wants the vaccine for

her baby or not, because they gave the shot inspite of.She is very furios but

she doesn't know what to do about it who to talkto and what kind of rights she

has.Is anybody in this group can give me someadvise in this situation that I can

advise her?I myself am very much against the vaccination of any kind. When she

was a kidI never vaccinated her and she went trough college without, and she is

in perfecthealth.Finaly I convinced her no to vaccinate my grand children and I

am just asfurios on the medical personel that they ignored her answers.I

appreciate all your coments. In

One week is not "overdue" as most babies come anywhere from two weeks before to two weeks prior to the due date. I had home births and figured out my own due dates (you add two weeks from last menses and go back three months), and all my kids came within this two weeks before to two weeks after time period. One came 8 days later, another came 1 day later, another 5 days, etc. None of them went more or less than the two weeks from their due date.

Tell your daughter to not allow her doctor to bully her into being induced again unless there is truly a major risk factor (she or the baby are definitely going to die without intervention!). And it is best to have an advocate with her (in form of spouse or mom or friend) who will help secure her wants when she is in labor as she will not be in a position to fight for what she needs when in labor. Most important, prior to baby coming, make sure she and the doc are in agreement with her wants, needs, and care.
