Methylated Spirits (a British term) is:

 

Ethyl Alcohol which has been adulterated with Methyl Alcohol (wood alcohol, which is poisonous) to make it unfit for drinking and hence not subject to excise tax, but otherwise has the properties of Ethyl Alcohol. It is the main ingredient in Windshield Washer Anti-freeze.

 

I very much enjoy your group and have been using advice from the group for a number of years.
