Guest guest
Gabriele, My guess is that the reason they say not to grow ginseng in Fla is that it needs a 'cold' period of rest trhu the winter... you may be able to get it to grow...but the point is that if ginseng is not grown where it likes - the strength of the end result is going to be lacking...does this make any sense to you? d--- On Tue, 2/10/09, gabriele <gcliburn wrote: gabriele <gcliburn{Herbal Remedies} REALLY dumb questionherbal remedies Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 12:38 AM allright , i was reading up on the ginseng website just now , and they want 50 $ for half a pound of 3 year old ginseng rootlets . now , IF i remember right ... some ginseng i left and forgot in my refridgerator ... grew roots . pretty goodsize chink of ginger that did develop roots . now , dumb question number one : would planting those roots work ?? how big of a chunk of ginseng should i plant ??? also ... i am a bit of a maverick and that ginseng website said , no grow ginseng in florida . so what ??? i have shady spots , well manured and drained . i can make it more manuered and more drained . soo , you think i could try ?? i would prefer to get a couple of roots to try , because 50 $ is a lot of $$$ to experiement with -- and LOOSE . thanks MARANATHA ! gabriele gcliburn (AT) tampabay (DOT) rr.com

Guest guest
allright , i was reading up on the ginseng website just now , and they want 50 $ for half a pound of 3 year old ginseng rootlets That is not a bad price at all. If you can, get some, but do make sure they are under a shade cloth! I started ginseng from seeds once. I planted the seeds in the fall in a planter and dug the planter in. In spring I had healthy babies, but even though they were in a somewhat shady spot, the first sunny warm day did them right in. Since I can't be bothered with shade cloth, and this area is not protected from deer, I never tried again.
Guest guest
you are right about the price not being bad at 50 $ per 8 oz .... UNLESS you are unemployed and live with 4 people on 200 a week . bills , groceries and all . i dont even spent that much on groceries these days ....
