Guest guest Posted January 29, 2009 Report Share Posted January 29, 2009 My father has been in hospital for almost 2 weeks. He was diagnosed with advanced cirrhosis of the liver. He has been a hard drinker most of his life. Yes, but he has also been a strong active hard worker. He is now 77 and just last summer he built my sister's deck practically single handed. The summer before he renovated my other sister's cottage. Over the years - (since he retired!!) - he has built my barn, built my deck, built my verandah and has been helping us renovate our basement. All of this while he redid his own roof, shovelled his own driveway, fixed everyone's water pumps, lawn mowers......etc., etc.......etc. My point is that yes, this man has lived a hard life, but he also has always been strong and healthy. Over the last two weeks, he has lost so much of his strength and vitality that is is truly frightening! He will be coming home so that we -m y mom, sisters and myself can take care of him with the help of home-care. I have been giving him milk thistle. Where do I go from here?? The hospital has basically told him that he is going home to die.... but I want him to know that we are taking him home to get him better..... please help. He is so weak, I am afraid to do anything too drastic....
