Hi

I'm collecting fresh hawthorn berries and making tea and drinking it

3 times a day to bring down my high BP. Can i drink TOO much of it ?

Does it matter how many berries i use per cup of tea? I squash the

berries first to get more strength in the tea and decoct it for 20

mins. Am i doing it right ? Thanks for any help.

probably YES.

it is a vaso dilator and seems to have

a.c.e. //angio tension conversion enzymes inhibition properties

so I think it has to be treated with respect.

look up Michael Murray, Rosemary Gladstar/slick, David Hoffman,

Louise Tenney, John Christopher and compare the doseages that they

talk about.

my hunch is about 500 mg but I don't remember... so do some research.

have you ever heard of birds "drunk" on hawthorn berries? They eat it and their bp gets too low for a while. Makes birds "drunk" and cats full. lol

---Hi Mike

Thanks very much for your reply. Will certainly look up

those names as i could find nothing much on dosage. Just not sure how

i'll know how many berries per mg but will see what it all says.

Haven't heard of birds getting drunk on it lol and unfortunately

haven't got drunk on it yet myself but will keep trying <<<wink>>>

--- Hi all

Well after doing this for one month my BP has gradually come

down from as high as 177/86 to 125/65!!! I can hardly believe this

myself and am wondering if the very high BP was just a blip ?? The

nurse who took my BP was adamant i would need BP tabs and i was just

as adamant i would n't be taking them. I did take enteric coated

aspirin for 2 weeks because it was so high but never intended to use

them for long and stopped them after 2 weeks but my BP continued

coming down. Could they still be having an effect on my BP ? I have

also been taking magnesium ( read that low magnesium can be a cause

of high BP) and have sent off for 1000mgs garlic capsules( i tried it

raw but couldn't deal with it )

I also have had a very erratic pulse (VE's)getting worse since i

was 19 (now 51) and that seems to have disappeared too!! I know

that what i read said that hawthorn berries could do all this but in

a month???!!!

GO GIRL!!Wow that is great!I am going to remember this. I dont have personal experience with BP but from what I have read and learned over and over again, is cayenne will put BP where it needs to be, there is someone I have in mind that might benefit from this info I will be sure to pass it on. Many herbs have a myriad of arrays what they are useful for and you have proven that. --- Thanks very much Gina. Am finding it all quite amazing myself and

still wondering if its some sort of coincidence. I also read that you

needed to use the flowers and the leaves as well as the berries to

get an effect but at this time of year here , theres only berries

left on the trees so thats all i've been able to use. I do hope it

works for others.

Hawthorne WILL grow in Atlanta - we got a couple from the Arbor Foundation

several years ago. They were just little whips, but grew quickly. Within a

very few years they were pretty good-sized trees and the one getting full sun

was starting to blossom in June. LOVELY blossoms with a great scent, but the

blossom phase only lasted a few days. The berries came out in about July,

ripening VERY slowly. There were a LOT of bright red berries covering the tree.

Even without the medicinal value (which has kept me off BP meds), it's a

beautiful tree. Two comments. The hawthorne comes by its name honestly.

Every branch is covered with 2 inch long needle-sharp spikes. It pays to pick

berries carefully. We didn't go after the ones in the top branches for two

reasons - the first is that the lower branches met our needs and the second is

that the birds and squirrels LOVED the berries about as much as they liked the

persimmons in the adjacent tree, and we

like to leave something for them.

Now that we've moved to Alabama, I plan to get another couple of trees. I tried

to propagate from a branch taken from our trees, but that didn't go well.

I'd try it in Florida. I think the tree might do just fine.
