[Fwd: Is Total Nutrition Gluten Free ?]

Hi Vicki.

 

I called NOW foods. They are a major manufacturer of vitamins,

minerals and health products.

They have their own laboratory, formulate products and are responsible

for preparing ingredient labels.

According to them, Wheat grass and Barley grass are

not gluten free.

 

I also put "Wheat grass gluten" into a search engine and got

varying data regarding this issue.

Some sources stated that is is gluten free and others stated it is not

gluten free. Obviously there are

varying amounts of gluten in the food we eat.

Some foods are very high in

gluten while others would be very low.

This is key !

 

There is a big difference in the grain vs. the grass.

All kinds of changes occur in the grain when it contacts water and

begins to grow. Before sprouting a grain is

acid to the body. After sprouting, it becomes alkalizing and a higher

quality protein develops. This is a topic

that could take many, many pages but let's just simply say that

sprouting is an excellent, excellent

source of nutrition complete with all the enzymes to digest them.

 

As Doc points out on his free CD, sprouted grains no longer have enzyme

inhibitors that stop enzyme activity.

Instead of enzyme inhibitors, the sprouted grain (and later the grass)

is full of enzymes to help the body.

Since enzymes are used as a communication relay in the body, they are

very important for a body to be functioning well.

Sprouted grains are digestible and the protein is readily available for

the body to recognize and use.

Sprouts are brilliant for nutrition and health as is our Total

Nutrition.

We believe that many allergies, reactions and digestive problems are

caused by eating grains that have not been sprouted.

 

Our approach with Total Nutrition would be to have a person take a

small amount of it and see if there is a

reaction. If there is a reaction, we believe we have found something

that if taken in small amounts and increased gradually

will likely turn off the allergy or reaction. In other words, the

person continues taking a small amount until the reaction

no longer happens. We teach our students to view reactions as a

positive factor in that something has been found

that will most likely detox that person.

 

I do not know of any organic, quality gluten free products.

 

If anyone else has researched this first hand, is a celiac and has

actually tried specific gluten free products with good success,

please let me know. I will pass the information onto the list.

Hi,

 

I'm real curious if the total nutrition product is gluten free. I have

celiac's disease (just recently self diagnosed) and I am extremely

intolerable of any sorts of gluten. I guess I'm wondering about the

barley and wheat in it. Is their a difference in the barley & wheat

 

grasses and the barley and wheat grains?

 

Also if anyone knows of certain brand products that are gluten free can

 

you please post those as well. I've been a label reader for years but I

 

haven't had to look for gluten yet, and I know it can be well hidden.

Their have been a couple of companies that I've e-mailed so far, I just

 

thought if anyone had a list to share it would be helpful.

I am well aquainted with a family that has celiac. The youngest is so severely allergic to gluten that if he were to touch with his fingers a crumb of a cookie, he could have a serious reaction. The mother grows her own wheatgrass and gives the juice to her son and he THRIVES on it. My personal opinion, from having grown wheat grass and seen the reports that wheatgrass had gluten is that it will only have gluten if it is contaminated by the occasional seed. Sometimes a grain or two hides among the dense blades and could easily be put through the juicer. However, if you are growing your own, you can be watchful of that and be sure you are only cutting the blades.

I don't believe it is possible for there to be gluten in the grass because gluten is a special storage protein found in the grain. Sprouting the grain metabolizes some of the gluten and sprouted grains are then low gluten- but that is still referring to the grain and not the plant.
