Guest guest
Perhaps echoed in a quotation from the " Dhammapada " (some buddhist book of sutras): " the flower is beautiful, but within the flower there is an arrow pointing right at us. " Lonny: Well, since we are going with tangents and associations. This then brings to mind the Buddhist concept of Vasana, the notion that once we overcome a habit it will tend to reemerge so we have to be vigilant. The characters for vasana denote the perfume of a flower, that subtle essence and beauty that " lure " the senses back to identifying with the material world. Literally the characters mean " fragrance " . Then we can note the connection to aromatic herbs said to " open the orifices " to dispel stagnation (ignorance) and allow the clear perception of reality beyond desire. In my own experience grief at the loss experienced when one comprehends the absolute demand of spirit is an early response of the ego to awakening (it soon becomes rage). But if one takes responsibility for one's practice, recognition, and motives, the sense of loss is quickly enough replaced by something much greater and ultimately inspiring. Of course the degree to which loss or joy are preent in a persons consciousness will depend entirely on which part of their experience they are most interested in. Great conversation and I appreciate all your posts.-Lon
