Beth Grubb Company names for their patents and modifications of the Classical formulas can be confusing. IMO, one is better to use the Pinyin name and / or Hanzi term for Chinese formulas when searching WWW for data. Also, prices and inclusion rates of the herbal ingredients can vary between companies. For an idea of the variations and prices of formulas, register as a practitioner (free) with Crane Herb Co, at http://www.craneherb.com/ Then go to the Custom Pharmacy Library there at www.craneherb.com/web/practitioner/custompharmacy/cflibrary.aspx and select the " Source Formulas " option. Then enter the first few pinyin terms of any formula of interest, for example liu wei di huang This will return data from different manufacturers, with the prices shown. For an idea on variation in ingredients, from WWW data (including Crane Herb Co data), here is a summary of the data on one popular formula: Buzhong Yiqi Tang* (Tone Middle (SJM) & Enrich Qi Dec; Ginseng & Astragalus Dec): Inclusion Rates (Mean & Range, %) in 11 separate formulas were: Huangqi 26.1 (19.3-29.9) [Tone Qi, Ascend SJM Sunken Yangqi]; Renshen** 14.7 (9.2-19.3) [Tone SP Qi]; Baizhu 13.8 (9.1-17.6) [Tone SP; Dry Damp]; Danggui 13.8 (5.9-19.7) [Tone Qi; Tone Xue; Activate Xue]; Chenpi / Jupi 9.5 (6.5-11.7) [Rectify Qi; Digestive~ Aid ST; Aid digestion of other Hbs]; Zhigancao / Gancao 8.8 (5.7-18.2) [Tone Qi, Harmonise other Hbs]; Chaihu 7.0 (4.4-11.8) [Ascend Yangqi Sinking]; Shengma 6.3 (4.4-9.7) [Ascend Yangqi Sinking]; (**dt cost of Renshen, one can substitute 2-3 times more Dangshen instead); grind all Hbs to coarse powder; some formulas also add Dazao (at Gancao dose) & Shengjiang (at Renshen dose); Dose: as Powder: 7.5g / dose, TID; can make into pills w cooked honey (Miwan Fu); as Dec: cook ??g formula w water (Shuijian Fu) (2 bowls); cook down to 1 bowl; remove dregs from Dec & drink Warm between meals; Actions: Tone Qi; Enrich Qi; Warm & Tone SJM; Rectify & Harmonise SJM; Support SJM to Aid Yang & Qi; Tone SJM Qi; Ascend SP Yang; Ascend Sunken Yang; Ascend Yangqi (Raise Prolapse); Prevent & Tx immunosuppression induced by surgical stress Indications: key TCM formula that allows many MODIFICATIONS for many diseases; great for prolapsed organs (anus, rectum & uterus; ST ptosis, eyelid ptosis) esp dt Qixu / Qi Taxation / exertion; best for prolapse / ptosis dt SJM Qixu which causes SJM Yangqi Sinking (organs / tissues lack Nourishment & become flaccid & body starts to collapse inwards & downwards); also good in fever dt Qixu; S & Ss: Body Heat ( / Fever) (Shenre) w sweat (Youhan), fever~ intermittent, fever worse w exertion, thirst (Ke) w preference for Hot drinks (Hao Reyin), headache w Averse to Cold (Wuhan, chills), weak breathing (Shaoqi) / breath shortage / panting w laconic / sluggish speech (Lanyan), inappetance (Yinshi, drink & food tasteless / of no interest), four limbs (Sizhi) weak, heavy (Suanzhong), lack strength (Wuli) & aches & pains (Tengtong), indolence (Daiduo) & prefer to lie down (Haowo) / curl up; immunosuppression induced by surgical stress; face shiny & pale; T: pale & thin (She Nensedan) w Fur white; P: Xu (weak, empty) & big (Mai Xuda) / weak & faint; if appropriate S & Ss of Qixu / Qi Sinking present, can Tx: Qixu w Sinking (Qixu Xiaxian) causing (Yinqide) prolapsed anus (Tuogong ), uterus prolapse (Zigong Xiachui), chronic dysentery (Jiuli) / chronic malaria (Jiunue), gastroptosis (Wei Xiachui), KI prolapse (Shen Xiachui), eyelids ptosis (Yanpi Xiachui), neurasthenia (Shenjing Shuairuo), myasthenia gravis (Zhongzheng Ji Wuli), hypotension (Xueya Guodi, BP too low), immunity low (Mianyili Di), leucopenia; for better effect (Xiaoguo Genghao) to contract & Strengthen (Shousuo Youli) smooth muscle of Internal organs (Neizang) & Strengthen their tension (Zhangli Zhengqiang), add Zhike / Zhishi; used in chronic LV~ hepatitis (Manxing Ganyan), hypercholesterolaemia, ST-Intestine (Changwei) ulcers (Kuiyang, losing Yang), chronic KI~ nephritis (Manxing Shenyan), KI Disease Complex (nephrosis) (Shenbing Zonghebing), chronic bleeding (Manxing Chuxue), anaemia (Pinxue), HT disease (Xinzangbing), neurasthenia, vertigo, chronic diarrhoea (Manxing Fuxie) / faeces~ loose / watery, loss of hair (Tuofa), vision fatigue (Shili Pilao), impotence / ED w premature ejaculation (Yangwei Zaoxie), rhinitis (Biyan), habitual / recurrent (Xiguanxing) miscarriage (Liuchan), haemorrhoids (Zhichuang), chyle in urine (proteinuria) (Ruminiao), spontaneous sweat (Zihan), chronic bronchitis (Manxing Qiguanyan), sweat~ night, oligospermia (Jingzi Quefazheng, sperm Xu / shortage disease), recurrent neuritis / neuralgia (Duofaxing Shenjingyan), asthma (Xiaochuan), senile (Laonianxing) osteoporosis (Guzhi Shusong), atrophic (Weisuoxing) vulvitis (Waiyinyan), senile red & white leucorrhoea (Chibaidai), hereditary (Yichuanxing) cerebellar (Xiaonaoxing) ataxia (Gongji Shitiao), glucosuria / diabetes (Tangniaobing); complement (Peihe) WM cancer therapy (Xiyao Zhi'ai); Aid recovery / rehabilitation (Tiaoli) after surgery (Shoushuhou); debility after severe illness, pernicious anaemia, fatigue, metrorrhagia~ functional, leucorrhoea, postpartum problems (vertigo, anaemia, hypolactia, lochia~ retained, urine incontinence, lochioschesis, infertility, metrorrhagia~ irregular, bleeding between menses, bleeding~ irregular), corneal ulcers, cerebral arteriosclerosis; Best regards,
