Guest guest
Hi Attilio I don't know the herbal specs of the plant. In South Africa we have a tea called Rooibos (Rooi=Red, and bos=bush in Afrikaans) which I thought was indigenous to South Africa. It has a pleasant taste, contains no tannins and very high in anti-oxidants. It is my preferred tea since other teas (like Ceylon, etc) tend to be too bitter. As a folk remedy it has many uses, from giving it to babies when they are sick (instead of plain water), for skin conditions in soaps and creams. There are now even commercial products available with Rooibos in. :-) Fred Albrecht _____ Chinese Medicine Chinese Medicine On Behalf Of Attilio DAlberto 24 June 2008 09:49 AM Chinese Medicine Redbush Tea Hi all, Does anyone know the TCM properties of Redbush tea, also known as aspalathus linearis? Guest guest
Hi Attilio Doing a quick google on " Rooibos herb " : Results: Rooibos promotes anti aging -antioxidants in Rooibos help in destroying free radicals that attack and damage healthy cells. Rooibos contains Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, Zinc, Fluoride and iron .. Rooibos helps to control allergies Some of our customers state that it prevents sinus infections. Rooibos contains Aspalathin, a flavonoid found in medicinal herbs that are used to treat skin disorders and circulatory disorders. Flavanoids found in Rooibos may also have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. Japanese research on Oligosaccharides found in Rooibos concludes that these compounds may aid one's immune system to fight viral infections ( i.e HIV ). Also Rooibos tea contains no colors, additives or preservatives, making it a natural beverage. It contains no caffeine. According to studies conducted in South Africa and Japan Rooibos has been shown to aid in health problems such as insomnia, irritability, headaches, nervous tension, and hypertension. Studies also show that this tea relieves anti- spasmodic agents, which can relieve stomach cramping and colic in infants. In South Africa Rooibos has been used to treat allergies such as hay fever, asthma and eczema very effectively . It is also used to treat irritated skin. Rooibos is brewed and placed directly on infected areas. Rooibos contains anti - oxidants which can help slow the aging process and boost the immune system. Rooibos is a great thirst quencher and is an excellent beverage for active people, including children. This tea contains no oxalic acid, making it a good beverage for people prone to kidney stones. Rooibos contains the minerals, copper, iron and potassium, calcium, fluoride, zinc, manganese, alpha- hydroxy ( for healthy skin ) and magnesium ( for the nervous system ) are also components of this tea. In South Africa pregnant women and nursing mothers drink Rooibos because it contains no caffeine. Best of all Rooibos is a good tasting beverage !!
