The highest purpose of medicine is ming<<< That may be a lovely ideal, but as a central precept supposedly _evolved_ from CM, the basis is fanciful and flawed. A brief check of modern sources shows these to be 2 very different words (in both writing _Han4zi4_, and speech _hua4_) ming4 (life / destiny / fate / luck) (also ming4yun4, tian1ming4, others) compare to: ming2 (bright / clear / enlightenment) (also kai1ming2(open-clear), jue2wu4(wakeup-realize), Pu2ti2(bodhi), others) Just for fun, I also looked up: reveal (shi4, many others) revelation (qi3shi4) ego-size of man with books and courses to sell (unprintable ) Speakout if my etymology is wrong. joe reid 06-13-08 www.jreidomd.blogspot.com
Guest guest
Joe: Speakout if my etymology is wrong. Lonny: Of course they are different characters. Look around and you'll find these related meanings for homophones pronounced ming all used relatedly in spiritual texts: Enlightenment, Clarity, Destiny, Life, Sleep, Ignorance, Hell, Name. All philosophically related to each other. Of course you know that in philosophy, medicine, and spiritual writings homophones are often related by fine shades of meaning, right? Like jing (undifferentiated potential) and jing (lineage, wires, lines of transmission). Or yuan (source) yuan (spring) and yuan (abyss). =============================================================== It's rude to suggest I'm trying to sell courses or books. My classes are booked three years out and I've NEVER advertised my books other than to announce their availability when first published. I'm putting in time to discuss ideas I think are important in my community because I'm committed to them. Why do smart guys become so rude when their worldview is threatened instead of having dignity and sticking to the discussion of ideas on their own merits?
