Guest guest
Phil, Nice presentation. Endocarditis (and other life threatening conditions) is not something that needs to be taken on single-handedly. As you point out, it takes a team. Like Z'ev points out, it takes a mutually respectful team. Unfortunately it's hard sometimes even for the cardiologist to share turf with the surgeon, let alone an OMD. Most healthcare systems outside of the U.S. are in better shape to integrate. I feel lucky to live in the San Francisco area. When faced with a critical care issue, I can find senior practitioners of many different disciplines willing to share turf around a single case. However, it usually means that some expenses are going to be out of pocket. The good part is that such expenses are paid directly to the caregivers, so the cost is not magnified by institutional accounting systems. I sense that you participate with many such interfaces of caregiving. Respectfully, Emmanuel Segmen
