Morgellons Disease has been in the news for some years now but I have not seen a case yet. It is not a new disease because it was described circa 300 years ago, but the incidence seems to be increasing since 2001. Most Medline abstracts on this disease appear to regard it as a form of " delusional parasitosis " . However, it was claimed recently that analysis of cellulose-like " fibres " taken from the skin lesions of Morgellons Disease sufferers show a DNA match with Agrobacterium. See: CONTRIBUTION OF AGROBACTERIUM TO MORGELLONS DISEASE. RB Stricker, VR Savely, A Zaltsman, and V Citovsky, San Francisco, CA, Bethesda, MD, and Stony Brook, NY. (WAFMR) [Abstract 287 - Not avaliable online but see: http://nielsmayer.com/morgellons07.pdf Agrobacterium is a bacterium often used in GM research. Its genes, inserted into GM plants, enhance cellulose synthesis. See: http://tinyurl.com/6yeyrv If these genes were to get into humans, could they cause human cells to synthesise cellulose? That would be a horrific scenario. The thought of Monsanto, or other multinational companies, messing up the genetics of basic food production in their search for GM foods (for which they may become the world's main source of seed) makes my flesh crawl. Indeed, Morgellons Disease may have BOTH a physical (Agrobacterium- cellulose-related) and a mental aetiology. Best regards,
Guest guest
Hi Kimberly, all, The UK had GMO crop trials going on in 2002, if not earlier already. GM crops are not yet grown in a large scale here. However GMO containing foods started in 1996. Artemis - (...) As far as GMO's go..until very recently they were banned in England. Over the last two years they have been allowed in the food supply. Low and behold, allergies and asthma in children have skyrocketed in just the last year. hmmmm. " I'd be mental too if I were synthesizing cellulose b/c some people were messing around with genes. Hugo ________ Sent from Mail. Guest guest
 Hi Kimberley.  Could you provide references?  After a quick search, this is what I came up with: " Its stated mission is to 'improve the health of the public,' but with 15 percent of its budget--more than $3 million--coming from food companies and trade groups, it has learned not to bite the hand that feeds it, " Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber write. " 'They never criticize the food industry,' says Joan Gussow, a former head of the nutrition education program at Teachers College at Columbia University. The ADA's website even contains a series of 'fact sheets' about various food products, sponsored by the same corporations that make them (Monsanto for biotechnology; Procter & Gamble for olestra; Ajinomoto for MSG; the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers for fats and oils). " From http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=American_Dietetic_Association  I had a talk with one of my patients yesterday, and he was mentioning how if we want CM (for instance) to be recognised or to have power, we need to provide documentation. Clear accurate documentation. I've always wished for places like this list to be sources of this nature.  Hugo kimmymarin <kimmymarin Chinese Medicine Tuesday, 6 May, 2008 7:58:24 AM Re: New disease due to GM foods? ah yes...Monsanto. ....the number one sponsor of the American Dietetic Association and the reason I refuse to be a member of their organization.
