Kath:

The FDA banned it in diet products after the lawsuit with Metabolife

(circa 2003). The Senate did hear testamony on this and based on

this high profile suit did likely recommend the FDA ban. The FTC was

also involved in investigations and condemnation of the misuse of

this fine herb.

I think to besmerch Ms. Clinton, et al is just a political tactic.

No politician would like to appear for a product which was deadly to

his or her constituents!

The real battle is over the extended ban on non-medical professionals

(meaning us!)in prescribing this useful herb.

We must do our utmost as Professionals to prevent that.

As a Healthcare Practitioner in the 1990's, the Clinton

Administration severely impacted my ability to be gainfully employed

with it's support of socialized types of Healthcare reform. While I

am not a fan of Hillary, I am more concerned with the bigger picture

of progressive annilation of alternative forms of healthcare

seemingly proposed by both parties!

That seems more alarmist than I meant it to be. When it comes to

Politics and influence, we are our own worst enemies. We as

Professionals, are individual and apolitical by nature and are

suceptible to group pressures and influence.

As a result of managed care policies in the U.S., Medical Doctors I

know are " working 4 times as hard to make half " the money of the

90's.

Cash based, consumer driven practices are not immune. Over half the

out of pocket expense on healthcare went to non-traditional medical

practioners. Great news for us, but as conventional care providers,

insurance companies and lawyers lose money, where will they go for

more? To us, of coruse.

Ma Huang and control of the diet suppliment industry could be a start

in that direction. What are we doing to protect our professional

rights?
