I'm no expert, but Jiao Shu-De is..

what about these forms of gan cao:

*Sheng gan cao shao* (fine licorice root tips) treats urethral pain and can

be used for strangury.

*Sheng cao jie* (raw resinous licorice root) for dispersing swelling and

toxin and for dis-inhibiting the joints.

*Fen gan cao* (shaved licorice), licorice stripped from its bark, for

clearing internal heat and draining heart fire.

Has anyone on the list grown Gan cao?

Is it difficult to grow in a temperate climate (Northern CA)?

Hi All,

Would experts on the List care to compare and contrast the key actions &

uses (and differences) of 4 different forms of Rx Glycyrrhizae?

(a) Gancao

(b) Shenggancao (Fresh / unprepared)

© Zhigancao (Honey-fried);

(d) Shaogancao / Gancaoshao (tips of root / fine roots )

Amalgamated WWW data treat these 4 forms as more or less as the same,

except for (d) which is classed as Cold (and is used more than the other 3

forms in Fire / Heat cases, infections & Toxic cases), whereas a, b and c are

classed as Warm or Even.

Best regards,
