6 Stages and 4 levels

OK, I wanted to get some clarification.

I understand that the 6 stages are: tai yang, yang ming, shao yang, tai

yin, shao yin, jeu yin (not as sure what these stages mean)

And the 4 levels are: wei, qi, ying, xue (these are more about the

invasion of an external pathogen deeper into the system)

Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct.

Basically, in the Shang Han Lun six channels model, Zhang Zhongjing

adapted the six channel model of acupuncture/moxabustion in the Su Wen

and Ling Shu to an internal medicine model. This model states that

externally contracted illnesses progress through six channels, from

exterior to interior, with specific changes and transformations that

manifest as somewhat predictable symptom patterns. We call these 'tai

yang' disease, 'yang ming bowel disease', etc.

The four aspects or levels were developed by the Wen Bing/Warm Disease

school through the works of such authors as Ye Tianshi andWu Jutong.

This was a later school in Chinese medicine (Qing dynasty) developed

to address some of the perceived shortcomings of the Cold Damage

school of Zhang Zhongjing. Today they exist side by side in Chinese

medicine, and have integrated with each other to some degree.
